NOLA in SanAntonio "All of a sudden we don't see any white people,"
http://faraichideya.com/

....

They werent told where they were going, but ended up in San Antonio, Texas. They were taken to the coliseum and the American Center, all of the evacuees. My uncle was worried about a repeat of the Convention Center fiasco. And then he noticed something. "All of a sudden we don't see any white people," he said. All of the white evacuees had mysteriously disappeared.

He asked a volunteering priest what had happened. The priest told him that local hotels were being paid to take evacuees. The white evacuees were told about the hotels. The black ones, says my uncle, were not.

5. well i'm guessing it is true tho i hope it isn't
red cross was paying for hotels or motels for ppl who ran out of $$$ after evacuating by car, many ppl who evac'd live paycheck to paycheck & having lost home & job at the same time did need their hotel rooms paid for

i have heard of this program even in vegas, katrina evacuees could get some hotel days at harrahs

so the hotel program exists & it is a good program helping lots of ppl

however

i would hate to think they were picking & choosing who got the rooms based on skin color but there is a shortage of rooms & this does seem to be happening, many ppl outside the area are completely UNaware of the huge # of white refugees because all they see are pix of refugees in shelters -- black or almost all black

it makes you wonder wtf? there does seem to be a two-tiered effort

2. I grew up in San Antonio, and most of my family is still there, this would
shock the shit out of me.

San Antonio, IMO, is one of the most tolerant cities in Texas, when it comes to racial issues. It's got issues, but not as bad as others in the state. This would piss me off beyond reason if it's true.

3. I agree
This would be highly frowned upon in San Antonio.

More so I would guess. At the Jazz alive concert in downtown this past Saturday there were lots of black folk in attendance but lots of white folk too. Hard to tell but there has been no mention of any unequal treatmenthere that I know of.

7. There are quite a few at
Kelly AFB. My sil helped set it up for them. My daughter thinks that if this was true she would have heard about it. They are at Lackland AFB.
