FreeRepublic = hate group?
OK, can someone point me to some thread that explains what the whole Hispanic Caucus one is talking about? Something about lawyers for Human Relations and then something about the Freepers filing a lawsuit about them being called a hate group, is this true? So stupid, but having FreeRepublic put in the same category of Stormfront would be appropiate and make my day.

Freerepublic is not necessarilly a group.

However, it does attract a substantial amount of reactionaries and bigots. This is especially the case in immigration and muslim threads. The epithets 'wetback' and 'towel head' are not a rare occurence in those threads.

It is not surprising that the above threads always seem to have deleted posts(even the mods at FR are sometimes alarmed by their own brethren!). Still, the above epithets somehow do seem to stay posted( I know because I've gotten into heated debates over immigration at FR. Thus, my eventual banishement).

Even though Mr. Robinson makes it clear that FR doesn't tolerate any form of bigotry(in theory at least) and FR does have a good libertarian contingent, the fact remains that the reactionaries and bigots of FR seem to drive the ship in that forum.

p.s. I once directly confronted Mr. Robinbson in a thread about religious bigotry( i.e. anti-Catholic bias in some FR threads). I pointed out that the Islamic religion seems to be an exception to his admonition against anti-religious bigotry. He responded by saying(i'm paraphrasing) that the Islamic religion has to somehow first 'prove itself' to him. That is, guilty until proven innocent(this was after 9/11).
