A slain hero. My hero.
A college professor who wanted to make a difference. That is the epitome of democracy at its best.

But glad to see someone else likes Harkin too, :hi: I like the guy, my type of politican, a midwestern farmers/labor populist a la Henry Wallace.

12. They voted for....
Tom Dasche who is their leader. When senators blow hard it is for a reason.
Tom turned Jeffers and lead filibusters that protected the federal bench from some really ugly lifetime appointed thugs.
There is no fantasy politics folks. It aint Tv or the movies and when your life and family are threatened maybe you reaccess the things you say. Your heros didn't get antraxed.

18. Here are my picks:
Edited on Sun Oct-05-03 05:55 PM by DeposeTheBoyKing
1. Dick Durbin
2. Ted Kennedy
3. Patrick Leahy
4. Robert Byrd
5. Barbara Boxer

Senator Durbin and I are on the same page on EVERY issue. Wish this guy would run for President. One of my law school classmates did research for his Judiciary Committee staff this summer; I was watching C-SPAN and there she was!

I like Russ Feingold, but don't know as much about him. Also like Hillary and Harry Reid, but they don't make my top 5.

20. Nobody considers Jim Jeffords?
He is probably my favorite senator. He showed more guts and integrity than anyone in either party when he became an independant.

My favorites:

Jim Jeffords
Dick Durbin
Russ Feingold
Tom Harkin
Carl Levin

a GRAND DEM.

For me it'd be - in no particular order -

Boxer
Kennedy
Byrd
Leahy
and last but ABSOLUTELY NOT LEAST, the great, principled Jim Jeffords!

I'd give honorable mention to Feingold (simply because I, too, don't know enough about him), Levin, Harkin and Reid, plus the New Yorkers, Clinton and Schumer, and Dick Durbin. Tom Daschle gets extra points, too, for weathering the anthrax scandal (wonder WHY he was singled out) AND for engineering the Jim Jeffords defection. That was the first big blow to bush, back in the early days of this monstrous regime.

on edit - added the New Yorkers and Durbin to the list.

He's the only one who had the guts to vote against the damn Patriot Act! THE ONLY ONE & that includes Wellstone.

Actually, I also like

Harken
Durbin
Jeffords
Boxer

I'm hoping to add Clinton to the list next year if she stays in the Senate and gets an investigation going into the EPA/WH 9/11 air quality scandal.

I'm excluding Corzine and Lautenberg because I cannot objectively reach an opinion on them.

1. Ron Wyden
2. Dick Durbin
3. Jack Reed
4. Dianne Feinstein
5. Russ Feingold

I also like Lincoln Chafee a lot just because his liberalism probably annoys republicans.

41. What? No Zell Miller? <ducking>
My preferences...depends on the issue:

1.) My Senator - Dick Durbin...he's always on the right page of all the right issues and one of the best on the Senate floor.

2.) Tom Harkin - A great man who embodies the same Progessive values I do.

3.) Russ Feingold - No question the most principled man in government.

4.) Ted Kennedy - He's who you want out there going up against the lies of this junta to break through the noise.

5.) Barbara Boxer - She's become more and more a leader and drives the RW nuts. Can't be all bad.

I respect virtually all Democratic Senators...even blue dogs like Breaux (I honestly will miss him) and moderate Republicans like Chaffee.

This might sound really goofy, but lately I kinda am liking the Senator from Scotland. If there's anyone who could be a really poop in the Elephant's punchbowl, I wouldn't count out Arlen.

My list:

You know, I can't really say at the moment...I first gotta look to see WHO co-sponsored the latest ENDA bill that ONCE AGAIN EXCLUDES PROTECTIONS FOR TRANSGENDER PEOPLE!!

Becuase whoever is on that list of co-sponsors just got moved to my excrement list! Ted Kennedy is FIRMLY on that list...for that very reason! I can't STAND him!!

What I fail to understand is...how can the party that stands for civil rights abandon MY CIVIL RIGHTS?!!!?

Sign me - Pissed off Democrtaic Transsexual from Texas

P.S. Favorite Congressman - Lloyd Doggett.
