Need Help/ Advice SSDI - What is ticket to work
Hey all I want to ask what is the ticket to work program?
First I want to say that I am an old lefty, I believe that the government is responsible to help those that can't help themselves.
However the fighter in me has a hard time accepting it for myself and I was wondering just what is the ticket to work program is?
Is it a job placement program etc? The only reason I reluctanly agreed to ssdi is for the help with the medical bills and pills plus the fact that I have terrible episodes of muscle ridgity where I can't move my legs for 2-3 hours at a time. I was let go from my last job due to pd and I just can't seem to live on what ssdi pays out and I can't do without the medical. If anyone has benefits please let me know.
I am open to any constructive criticism and not just talking points thank you - btw ssdi only let me make 65 dollars a month before the pull out from the check.Again I dont mean to disapperage and cut down anyone who is on the program. Where in the same boat after all. I am just looking for some advice thank you and god bless
Danny..
Note I am probably upset because I just got turned down from another factory job at Dubro in Wauconda because my hands shook too much and I was "too much of a distraction" Anyhow I just wanted to thank my friends at DU. You guys allways make me feel better. It is a great place to vent :toast:

1. Here's a Q&A page on Ticket to Work
http://www.wid.org/pages/eped/ticket2work/ticket2_Q&A.htm

It's basically geared to additional training opportunities.

3. Hugs back at ya.
I'm on SSDI too. Fortunately I also have a non-judgmental, supportive family, which helps a lot.

Obviously you are doing the best you can under extremely difficult circumstances. Don't add to it by beating yourself up - k? :pals:

4. It also allows you
to recieve your medical benefits for up to 3 years, and not have to go through a whole 'nother determination process if you need to go back on SSDI.

I highly recommend it. It can't hurt, and I know some people who have done well with it.

5. Folks can also earn more while on SSDI then many think....
From :
Amount Adjustments for 2005

We increased the Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) amount for individuals with disabilities other than blindness from $810 to $830 for 2005 . Details are on page 17.

We increased the SGA amount for individuals who are blind from $1,350 to $1,380 for 2005. Details are on page 17.

We increased the monthly earnings amount that we use to determine if a month counts for the Trial Work Period (TWP) from $580 to $590 for 2005. Details are on page 35.

For 2005 , we increased the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Federal Benefit Rates (FBR) from $564 to $579 for an eligible individual and from $846 to $869 for an eligible couple. Details are on page 20.

Trying to survive on Soc. Security Disabilty is becoming increasingly difficult. Although we receive small "COLA" increases yearly it's almost a joke since the last couple of years they touted how "generous" (2004=2.1% & 2005=2.7%) the increase was while taking away most if not all of the increase NEEDED, to pay for the HUGE increase in Medicaire mostly due to Bush*'s piece of CRAP prescription plan.

::sigh:: I easily could climb on a soapbox about this but sadly it would take more energy then I have at the moment.

Good luck if you try the "Ticket to Work" thing...

6. I have never seriously looked into it because I DON'T TRUST
ANYTHING ANYMORE! Plus, it complicates the situation.

Be careful, please.

7. The ticket to work
is a modified form of "welfare to work" program. It's rich pigs going oink, and another way to undo the NEW DEAL.

It's just the greedy fuckers squeezing the last out of a potential labor pool to exploit.Do not sell yourself to these fuckers..They will cut you off to die after a certain point, they really do not want to help or care about the disabled 'cause they want us all dead ya know, dead or feeding some rich pig bank account with our struggling besides if we are busy feeding the rich how could we ever get politically active..Think about it... NEVER trust the rich or bush people,to tell you you need to work their greed knows no limits and it warps their judgment.

I trust no one especially someone who thinks they are my boss or that they know what I need.A person who knows more and organizes is one thing,a person who knows nothing but bullies his employees to think like he does and do what he says even if it is stupid and harmful to me is a bully ..And in corporate america bullies not accountable to their employees look at Enron. What if you went off SSI to work at a corrupt company like Enron who rob you blind after all that work?Getting back on SSI will be harder as time moves on..... Workplace bullying is rampant in america I want no part of this systematic coercion.
take that"ticket" and wipe you ass with it. Besides ticket, it implies admission..Admission to what..servitude,stress exploitation, wage slave hood land of"normals"? ,admission to a "higher class" of people?.Or admission to a "show" Lets make the rich a show..so the able bodied/minded fuckers can laugh and rob us of our dignity again.it's disgusting to me.Why a "ticket"...sickening and I do not trust it if you ask me.

8. Exactly. Well said. Don't give them any little leverage at all to
reexamine your status and kick you off....

9. Thank you my friends for your advice and warnings
My soul is kind of singed today because of all the hawk name calling. I will be careful because right now I need the medical insurance for my parkinson treatments and drugs. Funny with all the crap and pain you go thru on a daily basis you'd think that the moral clarity people will give you a moments peace. Now I know how Lazzorus felt when he fell into the pit.
