| A compilation of stupid, insensitive quotes by Repubs re: Katrina disaster |
|
Feel free to add your own. We will probably have to add several more threads to cover it all. Here's a good start:
Smirk: "...out of the rubbles of Trent Lott's house -- the guy lost his entire house -- there's going to be fantastic house. I look forward to sitting on the porch."
Babs Bush: "What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality."
Babs Bush, part deux: "And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this — this is working very well for them."
Pat Robertson: "...Judge Roberts can, maybe, you know, be thankful that a tragedy has brought him some good."
Dennis Hastert: "It makes no sense to spend billions of dollars to rebuild a city that's seven feet under sea level....It looks like a lot of that place could be bulldozed."
Michael Brown: "Considering the dire circumstances that we have in New Orleans, virtually a city that has been destroyed, things are going relatively well."
Wolf Blitzer: "You simply get chills every time you see these poor individuals...many of these people, almost all of them that we see are so poor and they are so black, and this is going to raise lots of questions for people who are watching this story unfold."
Richard Baker: "We finally cleaned up public housing in New Orleans. We couldn't do it, but God did."
Michael Chertoff: ""Louisiana is a city that is largely under water."
Jack Burkman (GOP strategist): "I understand there are 10,000 people dead. It's terrible. It's tragic. But in a democracy of 300 million people, over years and years and years, these things happen."

| 3. this is for the stupid category....... |
|
......when Bush said no one ever imagined that the levees would break.
And yet, people have been predicting that for years!! It never occured to these guys that there might be a problem that a cateogory 4 or 5 was there but the levees were only built for a category 3!
Now that is powerful stupid!!!

| 4. DeLay: Is this kind of fun? |
|
While on the tour with top administration officials from Washington, including U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao and U.S. Treasury Secretary John W. Snow, DeLay stopped to chat with three young boys resting on cots.
The congressman likened their stay to being at camp and asked, "Now tell me the truth boys, is this kind of fun?"http://rawstory.com/news/2005/DeLay_to_evacuees_Is_this...

| 12. Just when you thought they couldn't GET anymore "over the top" |
|
than they already have, DeLay has to go and stick his entire Leg firmly down his throat.
What an asshole. I'm not sorry...that's the ONLY word for him.

"And Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job!"
And Laura Bush last night forgetting the name of the hurricane and calling it "Corena" twice. I don't have the exact quote though.

"I'm going to go home and walk my dog and hug my wife and, maybe get a good Mexican meal and a stiff margarita and a full night's sleep."
While peoples beloved dogs are being shot, and families have been torn asunder, and (we don't even know how many are dead)
Some people have no sense at all.

So, even though criminal charges are most likely warranted, civil liability, for sure, we have to be thankful that he is no longer in charge.
Jail -brown 20 yrs -cheney 50 yrs -Chertoff 25 yrs -bush life -Laura life as Rush's play toy -barbara solitary confinement, bread and water, 20 yrs.

| 13. Laura cackled, "I think its sweet other nations are offering their help" |
|
she shrugged and grinned it off like water off feathers. I got the clear impression she thought we didn't need it. Meanwhile in NO it was day 4 of no water and food for thousands.
This was on CNN while she was in a Lafayette shelter for the evacuees.

Center. He said that on NPR's "All Things Considered" either Thursday or Friday September 1 or 2.
The anchor had to convince him it was not rumor or innuendo. He had to repeat that the reports came from seasoned reporters who had previously reported from war zones and other disaster areas.

Yesterday 9/08 when the repugs on the hill had a meeting to keep politics out of the relief effort, but didn't invite any dems!
That was probably the stoopiest thing I have seen yet, and thankfully some reporter called them on it... and the look on Frist's face was worth all of the shame.
