bush 1st president since Hoover to have a policy that...
deliberately does nothing during a period of high unemployment. Please correct me if I am wrong. But haven't all other presidents tried to do SOMETHING no matter how ineffective to try and get people back to work? No major academic in the field of economics or finance will back Bush on his economic policies.

1. Sounds about right. It's not as if...
anybody with any sense actually believed the "tax cuts" would stimulate the economy.

2. It is.
Hoover had a very Adam Smith-like philosophy that the government shouldn't interfere, so FDR kicked his arse. It seems that Bush has the same one. The difference may be that we're not living in peacetime and middle-class people aren't paying as much attention.

4. Adam Smith
Actually Adam Smith advocated taxation on business to counter balance their power. Remember that 'free enterprise' didn't exist at the time and he was for abolishing the mercantilist system.
