democratic party leadership missing and presumed drowned by
hurricane katrina. one week after the storm struck the south, the national democratic leadership has still not been seen or heard from.
Rescuers and democratic party underlings are slowly coming to terms with the loss and preparing to move on with their lives.

2. Gore in NOLA
Gore chartered (and personally paid for) the flights, and would have been in NOLA earlier, but FEMA jerked him around for a couple days before giving the flights clearance.

Haven from fury Mercy Flight Brings Evacuees to ET

Gore accompanies about 140 arrivals from New Orleans but declines to take credit

By ROBERT WILSON

(snip)

About 140 people - mostly elderly and infirm - arrived Saturday at McGhee Tyson Airport on a chartered mercy flight from hurricane-ravaged New Orleans, welcomed to East Tennessee by a bright sun and a host of medical professionals straining at the reins to help their fellow human beings without regard to whether they were on the clock.

The displaced hurricane victims came to Tennessee on a hastily arranged flight, accompanied by doctors and carrying whatever they had in boxes, bags or, in one case, an old suitcase tied up with rope.

Former Vice President Al Gore arranged the flight and was on board, but he declined to take credit for the airlift, fearing it would be "politicized."

9. About Gore
While recounting Rehnquist's record this morning, CBS commentary said that Rehnquist would be remembered for two major events. One was lending an air of solemnity to Clinton's impeachment proceedings, the other which THEY actually characterized as a bad decision on his record was the Bush vs. Gore decision. They even spent a some time and went into a little detail about it.

3. Ok I will say something that may make you
very uncomfortable, while some folks have been posting on a message board, many Dems have been working behind the scenes, yes even those in the leadership. Unfortunately, they don't have time to go on TV and the ones on TV are kissing ass to try to ensure that the relief comes in... as they say, this is far more complex than many people are willing to say.

That said, there are some who are indeed MIA...

Don't ask for names or details ok... sorry

5. I would imagine that Dems are so mad - they are not even thinking
of politics right now. And that the best thing to do is the fix the mess & let the Repukes play games. Gore looks absolutely insanely tired & angry.

6. NYT reported on Sunday that the Dem leadership is itentionally .. .
holding its fire on the theory that Bush is in such deep shit, letting him self-destruct is (for now) better than being accused of politicizing the tragedy . . . don't know how true it is, but it makes a certain amount of sense . . .
