Why is Krugman carrying the water for Democrats.
Why is a professor one of the few critics that claim our treasury is being robbed for the specific reason of eliminating tax payer based entitlements in favor of privitization.

Are all Dem representatives so timid they are afraid to speak up?

Republicans will make the case that you cannot trust dems with security, they are too weak. We are seeing this strategy working.

1. Beats me. It's so brutally obvious.
Seems like only a few Dems and Bernie sanders are the only ones squeeling.

8. The pink tutus do bring out the pink in Lieberman's cheeks.
but it really doesn't do anything for the other three.

4. They're afraid?
Part of the problem is the Dems were complicit with BushCo in passing the legislation that has led us this state of affairs.

But you're right. We should be hearing a chorus from the Dems yet there are only single voices. I think they're afraid of being branded by the Repubs as disloyal, unpatriotic, etc. They've got to attack that petard head on.

At least half of the Dem presidential candidates have made this very point. Could it be that the media's refusal to air those Dems, and discuss their positions in an intelligent manner has led you to conclude that since you haven't heard it, it hasn't happened?

6. If a Dem speaks up and nobody listens,
does he or she make a sound?

Krugman, fortunately, gets paid to write a column.

Listen to the house after-hours speeches on C-Span some time. Democratic members speak out there...powerfully...because it seems to be the only venue for them. Betcha they send some of their speeches out to the newspapers...but that doesn't mean the papers will publish them.

Last night some of the CBC members spoke out about Iraq and the $87 billion request...most impressive. But mostly, I fear, unheard.

7. It's the Economics Behind It
Krugman has CREDIBILITY that most of us do not possess because he's not only a PhD but a professor and not only a professor but a professor with reputable publications and a reputation for intellectual rigor.

In many cases economics, much like my own field of political science, is as much of an art as it is a science when you want to defend your views or attack those of other people in the field. In order to do so in a credible manner, you really need a good grasp of the intricacies of the field.

Krugman has that.

9. I agree with some of the other posters to this thread
Dems DO speak out against this injustice. But they don't have a twice-weekly column in the NY Times.

10. Did anybody see Krugman with Lou Dobbs yesterday?
Dobbs finally asked if if there was ANYTHING good he could say about the bush White House and he said no.

Krugman's been on bush's ass for quite awhile now. I've not yet read anything of his that's even remotely supportive. He's spot on. Has been consistently. And for awhile there, he truly was a lone voice crying in the wilderness.

Krugman is my hero! I even sent him a thank-you card once.

11. Dobbs can't handle the truth
You'd think these guys who have some educational
background in how the numbers add up would be
agreeing with Krugman's assessment of the great
and deep debts that won't simply go away
and STILL think that further taxcuts are going to magically
bring us back to a surplus.

12. Krugman Essentially Is A Free Trader
Throw that into the works of some of the partisan idealouges on this board and they will blow a gasget trying to deal with that.

He may be a social liberal but he is NOT a "typical" Democratic Liberal when it comes to Economics.

He mainly just loathes the intellectual dishonety of the Junior Cabal and their inability to EVER do the appropriate thing if it clashes with their political agenda.

Where Are the Jobs George Bush Promised?

Bush Tax Cuts Fall Short of Delivering Promised Jobs
snip>

"The Bush Administration tax cuts have not provided the short-term stimulus the economy needed. Instead, the Bush tax cuts have rewarded the President's wealthy contributors at the expense of the economy, and furthered an extreme, ideological agenda that aims to destroy Social Security, Medicare and public education."

I just ran across this and it so aptly addressed your question, I had to post it.

14. Krugman's the best - a real hero who has stood alone
on most of these economic issues. Dems should go buy his book to show support.

He is one of the most sane voices we have right now.

He cuts through the BS with hard numbers. Numbers don't lie.
