So I'm 'Arguing' With My Brother...
... and he accuses me of being "happy" and "delighted" at the poor performance of Wall Street... and the economy... and the deficit... and the war... and the lack of WMD's... and the leaks... and the unemployment.

Clearly I'm partisan on these issues, but is he right? I'm ecstatic at the undeniable 'obviousness' that Bush is a failure... and I'm delighted that more folks are starting to PUBLICLY talk about it. --- But, isn't it possible to be delighted in his failures and at the same time be angry and mad and sad at everything his failures have done to this country, its citizens, the world, and it's inhabitants?

My brother couldn't see the difference... and I had a hard time explaining it to him.

Argh!~

1. So his position is that everything is messed up, but Bush is great?

I don't really understand his point. How could any American be "happy" that the economy is tanking? We're all in the same economy.

It's easy to see why someone might savor the one tiny patch of pleasure that state of affairs offers us, though; a clear illustration of the actual goals of conservative politics.

2. Sure it's possible.
But his side is so desperate, so deep in denial, that they're now lashing out at the folks like us who told them * would be a disaster. Since they can no longer argue the opposite, they must attack. It's just second nature.

3. Hmmm
There's an element of schadenfreude in what's going on at the moment. Watching Bush and his minions twist and turn as the heat increases is brilliant fun. Unfortunately it is all tempered by the fact that the little prick has destroyed many lives to enrich his friends.

The only way for it to stop is for Bush to fail in such a way the media can't cover it up.

That's why I'm happy. He finally seems to have crossed the Rubicon.

5. Agree with your first part, but I see the polls,
and realize that Bush* has ruined everything and still has approval ratings higher than 50%. I am not pleased that chimp killed and destroyed and continues to harm so many people. But I am pleased that more and more American sheeple are starting to see what a murdering bastard he and his cartel are.

6. explain to your brother
that we aren't "happy and delighted at the poor performance of Wall Street... and the economy... and the deficit... and the war... and the lack of WMD's... and the leaks... and the unemployment"

Explain that we're "happy and delighted" that the lie is finally being put to conservatives and their greedy self seving "logic".

But also explain that we're suffer from Duh'bya's horrible policies just like everyone else.

7. I'll admit to a guilty pleasure.
Even if the economy was booming and my stocks had doubled in value;
even if we were increasing the budget surplus;
even if we'd found nukes armed and ready to fly in Iraq;
even if Bush* had spearheaded a plan for universal health care;
even if we had supported the Kyoto accords and could see that global warming would soon be a thing of the past;
even if every man, woman, and child had adequate shelter and plenty to eat;
even if every child were receiving an education second to none in the world;
even if there were massive tax credits to encourage alternate energy sources;
I'd STILL be unhappy with how he* got into office.

And with his* every failure I think "OK smartass*, you stole the job and now you've screwed it up royally."
And in spite of the suffering of us and others I take a certain guilty pleasure in that.
My bad.

12. I'm with you, Trof
While on one hand I am sickened and saddened by the suffering in the world caused by this oaf, on the other hand I delight in every one of his misfortunes.

My neighbor who voted for Bush and said, "Well, at least we have Bush in office instead of Gore" after 9/11, doesn't say much anymore about the great leadership skills of Bush. When the state of the world does come up every now and then, I say, "Well, there were many of us who warned Americans about the dangerous idiot in office." He says nothing to this while his wife enthusiastically agrees with me.

Yep...that feels good.

But...we have to be careful not to "rub it in" because we are all in this mess together. We are trying to get converts from the middle, not enemies. So I must contain my glee until after the election.

8. Tell HIm
it's like being a parent. You've warned your child time and time again to choose his freinds wisely. Yet, despite your sage advice, he chose to hang out with the wrong crowd. Then one day, you son comes home to tell you that his friends have been arrested for stealing his wallet out of his bookbag.

You are saddened that your son has been let down; saddened that he was ripped off, but you are delighted that your son will finally see his dopey friends for who they are.

9. Relief at validation is mistaken
for happiness. Everything we worried about happening *is* happening. And it is good that more and more is surfacing.

10. There's a big difference between being happy about people finally
waking up and recognizing that Bush has devastated the economy and the country and reveling in the devastation itself.

11. Let's see
Your brother says, "Watch, I'll make this brick fly!"
And you say, "Won't happen."
He lets go the brick which lands on his big toe.
He says, "What are you laughing at?"

14. Well, were the wingnuts happy when Clinton was president
and everything was going so well – the economy was great, their stock portfolios were in great shape, and we were at relative peace and had friends in the world? NO! They hated it. They predicted his policies would fail and were not happy when they succeeded.
