I need to know if this rumor about Blanco is true...
My mother said that she heard Governor Blanco refused to allow food and water into NO immediately after the storm because she wanted people to evacuate the city, and she feared they wouldn't if there was food and water available.

This doesn't make sense to me, and I want to know if others have heard this, if it's true or unconfirmed. To me, it sounds like a rumor designed to put the blame on her, rather than where it belongs.

38. ABSOLUTELY NOT -- That was FEMA's lame excuse for not
letting in the Red Cross:

DU thread title (quite a bit of conversation in this):

Red Cross
* Acess to New Orleans is controlled by the National Guard and local authorities and while we are in constant contact with them, we simply cannot enter New Orleans against their orders.

* The state Homeland Security Department had requested--and continues to request--that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane. Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.

5. DHS told that to..
.. the Red Cross as their excuse for refusing them entrance to NOLA.

Blanco said that too? That's hard to believe since she was begging for help and aid even before the storm hit.

7. Sounds like a distortion of the Red Cross story
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 10:58 PM by Horse with no Name
Homeland Security wouldn't let Red Cross in the city because they said "that it would make the people not want to leave".
It's on their website FAQ.
www.redcross.org

Just a distortion of the truth. She might want to keep an eye on who lied to her.

21. If that's true, then Bush intended genocide. I heard
the Red Cross wasn't there but I thought they said because it was
too dangerous.

Then I heard that assh FEMA Brown wouldn't let anyone in, including
Sherriffs that the Governor had borrowed from other cities...they gave an interview I saw. 22 of them arrived to help and FEMA wouldn't let them in.

It's FEMA and FEMA must be starting the rumors. (Brown & Chertoff)

"feed the po black people and they wont want to leave the unairconditioned dirty filthy smelly Dome with no cots and toilets"

Helloooo. Sounds like their view of black people.
I really think they did intend to have them die of dehydration, thirst, and starvation.

If we hadnt been kicking up a storm, they might have gotten away with it.

The NG will not allow the Red Cross into NO because of the danger and the fear that people will stay if they start getting supplies....The RC said that they understand that the NG is in control.

Your mother should be able to cite a reliable source, much like we are able to produce the documents whereby Blanco requested federal assistance.

35. Reminds me of the scene in The Blues Brothers...
Where Jake is pleading with his jilted girlfriend for his life with a string of lies and lousy excuses, then he gives her a loving look and she forgives him.

Only instead of "the look", Dumbyass will say a prayer.

16. So...There are all kinds of people and agencies
that will serve to confuse this issue for the next few months, and take all the focus away from Dumbyass and his criminal neglect of his people.

We can't fall for it! We've got to keep those phone calls and letters going to our reps.

Bush is incompetent to lead this country, and he and his cohorts in crime need to be impeached and removed from office immediately to insure the safety of the people of the United States.

25. The truth is that the National Guard would not allow the Red Cross
into New Orleans for the reasons you stated. It is true. It was posted numerous times on many blogs and credited to a Red Cross public statement. Who issued the orders to the National Guard. I believe the president control them, doesn't he? Yep, they are making her the fall guy, er, um, I mean gal, woman, whatever. At this point, my faith in humanity is so shook up, I'm trying to think of a way to build a Speak & Spell ET caller to get rescued from the human species by aliens, if they exist. It's worth a shot. I'll probably stand a better chance than those poor people left in NOLA. I'm fed up with this government beyond what I already was. I think it's Passive Genocide to keep relief efforts out of NOLA like they did, whoever did it.

for the exact same reasons. There was a post on it earlier.

Someone is saying this. I think it is coming down from the feds not the state though.

Bush is the guy that has the final call on that issue and he chose to let folks starve until they leave. It was planned and it is sickening.

Take a look at their site and look for the FAQ section. If I remember correctly it was discussed at length there.

Homeland Security does something horrible and in the repugs attempt to blame the local government rumors spread it was Blanco.

It was a wicked rumor champaign against Ann Richards that won bush the position of Texas Gov.

Wow, just wow.
