Asshole on Fox: Where's the international outpouring of support for us?
Let's use this disaster to manufacture more hate.

Great plan.

Guess GW IS back at work.

22. As a Brit, I think that there are two "reasons" -
one: most of the media in the UK is not yet conveying the scale of the disaster as I know it to be - but only because I read DU and follow up on the links to photos, blogs, etc - even the reports of flooding sound localised, and the loss of life mentioned here is still less than 100. Certainly, the BBC does not seem to have grasped how serious this is.

two: everyone in the world knows - even if s/he knows nothing else - that America is RICH and can probably pay for all the clean-up and compensation and rebuilding by just diverting a week's worth of funding from her defence programme and/or an amount equal to what she spends every day in Iraq before breakfast.

It may also be that the media of non-US countries are having difficulty getting into the area to file stories for their media outlets - not everyone is as resourceful (or has the good contacts of) that Italian photographer from La Repubblica who seems to have got himself onto an American coastguard helicopter.

But, mostly, I think - it is the first reason - ie that New Orleans and the surrounding area "missed the bullet". Only this morning, a friend of mine who has many business contacts in the US said that "it all looks a bit grim, but not as bad as it might have been nor than was expected" and that he had heard that the levees had held. He was very shocked by the brief run-down of facts I gave him, culled from messages on DU.

I guess that the BBC will become more interested if it is found that the refineries have been put out of commission. Something "meaty" for their economists to get their teeth into - predicting, analysing.

27. Just heard the BBC Radio 4 10.00pm news item on post-Katrina NO -
and the journalist was trying and signally failing - in my view - to convey the enormity of the crisis. For instance, he spoke of the water rising "bit by bit" towards the high rise hotels (but I have read that it has been rising a foot an hour) and referred to only ONE breach in the levees!!!!

However, the "anchor" did say that the damage might be "collosal".

Donor nations do not ask for or accept aid.. If a millionaire's house burns down do the poor and middle class people take up donations to rebuild his house??

We have plenty of money, we just has assholes in charge who are hellbent on wasting it on idiotic "wars" and giveaways to their rich pals..

14. What is ironic about this
is that when other countries DO send support, our MSM never mentions it. I rememeber reading in a Canadian newspaper after Hurricane Andrew that CANADA sent a ship to Miami. . . I never saw any mention in our own media.

What? There was no ourpouring of support? This is the first you've heard about the 14,000 deaths? Well, death by flood is more TRAGIC than death by heat wave, so there!

The hurricane just took place yesterday and the devastation of the storm is just being realized today. Some parts of the world are just waking up to what is happening here in the United States. I'm sure that, just like after 9/11, the rest of the world will pour out their hearts to America.

BTW, when they see the President playing the guitar, perhaps they cannot get the full picture of how tragic this event truly is.

He's wrecked our economy, many industries, ecological damage, international hatred for us, and spent us into the hole in manufacturing a war to make Dick wealthier. Now we all owe China and others about $145,000.

I didn't give to other countries expecting anything in return, but dammit, I'm not to proud to ask for our brothers and sisters in La, Ms, Al, etc.

But i understand what you mean. We are supposed to be one of the best and wealthiest, so why do we need help? Yeah, it will probably cause more hatred.

What in hells passionate name has this country, run entirely by the republi-craps, done anywhere in the world during the past 5.5 years that would endear even a cockroach to us?

Republi-craps have squandered our good name and the good faith other nations had in us. They are actually safer if we are poorer, so why should they help? I would not expect it to turn around anytime soon either.
