Dear Senator Spector:
I am a staunch democrat and live in a different state from you. I rarely write letters to Republican senators -- especially during the Bush regime since anything the people have to say about anything means virtually nothing. The Republican congressional "block" in support of the Administration has been fierce.
But I did catch some of the hearing proceedings on William Pryor, and was incredibly impressed with your line of questioning. It seems you hold some principles dear to your heart in contrast to what your party's wish that you get into step with their program to change every aspect of life in America based on ideology. I was impressed.
And I hope that you will hold true to the principle that our judges should *not* be ideologues. William Pryor strikes me as one of the most dangerous ideologues that have been paraded before the Judiciary Committee. My question to you is: Is there not another human being in the entire U.S.A. who is qualified for this judgeship? Surely Pryor is not the last available person. So it isn't really a question of "will he stay true to the Constitution in spite of his dogmatic belief system?" The question is: Is he an ideologue who wants to MAKE laws on the bench? He surely is.
His only defense to anything relating to that issue was, "look at my record as attorney general." He never seemed to give the impression that he respects or loves the U.S. Constitution. He seems to have contempt for it and the "octagenarian" US Supreme Court justices.
Yes, I think the Administration can come up with another person for the job, and I implore you to insist on that by voting NO on William Pryor.
Thank you,
