1. Oh gee
There was a poster here today trying to tell us that he had weathered many hurricanes of this intensity in New Orleans and we were just silly for worrying.:eyes:

2. No not like this-I went through the gulf states after
Camile and I can tell you there have not been many hurricanes of this magnitude to hit NO, this will be remembered for a while...

8. The term being used over and over is
"historical". I totally agree. This one won't be forgotten.

3. As a person who survived hurricane Andrew in Homestead
May God watch over all in hurricane Katrina's path.

11. I was on one of the last commercial flights out of Florida before Andrew
The sky was one hell of a scary color.

5. It's true....
there was a Discovery Channel or Nova special a few years ago discussing exactly this issue -what would happen to N.O. if a large hurricane hit it.

It's happening now - and it's a nightmare scenario. Lake Pontchartrain can very easily flood the city - which is 6 feet below sea-level.

Best wishes to all the Louisianans - PLEASE stay safe. If you can't leave, get to a large hotel or shelter. I adore your city, and I'm heartbroken to think about what's going to happen.

9. I watched that same show..
and hoped we'd never see it come to pass, but this is definitely going to hit NO, and I hope all of our DU friends are out of there by now.
And don't tell me that global warming and climate change are not making this and other storms in the past few years even worse than they have been in my lifetime (and I am getting OLD!)

7. The path is the worst possible ...
because the eye will hit west of the city, which means, given the counterclockwise spin of the hurricane's winds, the most powerful winds, coming from over the warm waters, will be driving directly into with city, driving the ocean waters and floods in front of them.

10. This storm's size and intensity is historic.
I wish it wasn't headed toward New Orleans. This is like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

12. I know...
I usually ignore the overhyped hurricane reportage on the cables, but this one is real.

I'm terrified of what's going to happen to one of the greatest cities in America.

I hope there are no New Orleans residents still online at this time - but if you are, my thoughts are with you. Stay safe.
