If there's one thing everyone on earth can agree on, it's that nuclear bombs are
atrocious, evil weapons that no country should have, except whichever one you
happen to live in.

The U.S. has held a hard line even against allies such as India, demanding that
they sign the nuclear nonproliferation treaty. That is, until Monday, when
President Bush used a visit by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to break
years of nuclear policy by promising India "full cooperation" in developing its
civilian nuclear power program, and saying he'll ask Congress to ease
restrictions on nuclear trade between the two countries.

The agreement put to rest an awkward episode, in which India signed something
called the Nuclear "Naan" Non-Proliferation Treaty, which prohibits the
development of atomic flat bread.
