Democrats should reserve the right to filibuster.
That doesn't mean they should. But, if this nominee is not acceptable to the idea of equal rights and the Constitutional battles that have already been fought, then perhaps they should filibuster him. I am of the opinion that this nominee is really the replacement for Rehnquist, even though Rehnquist has not left yet, and the real battle is over the next nominee, and that is when the filibuster should be used. But, maybe we can't wait 'til the next time? If this gentleman is not qualified to sit on the bench, he should be judged in the here and present.

1. Unless a 'right' can be exercised, the regime is an oppressive one.
'Freedom" does not exist when oppression rules.

A filibuster is an entitlement, not a 'right.' It exists by virtue of the Rules of the Senate. I'm very fussy about the use of the terms 'right,' 'entitlement,' 'power,' and 'privilege.'

2. How about they refuse to discuss Roberts while there is an "ongoing
investigation" of a WH official? They would be happy to discuss Roberts once the "ongoing investigation" of a WH official is completed. It's important not to pre-judge Roberts while there is an "ongoing criminal investigation" of a WH official.

They could say, "We're not filibustering, we're just not going to comment, or vote until the ongoing criminal investigation of a bush* WH official is complete. Afterall the ongoing criminal investigation is regarding National Security issues and one of bush*s WH staff is involved AND is the leader of the search for the nominee. It would be imprudent to discuss ANYTHING that this bush* WH official is involved in while they are party to an ongoing criminal investigation"

Notice I didn't NAME the person.

3. Ongoing Investigation Of Roberts
Better yet, just say there is an ongoing investigation of Roberts(which there is), and they can't comment until the Congress returns in September.

Let the repubs talk about Roberts for weeks, there can't be that much good positive stuff on him, while the Democrats continue to ask questions about Rove, and the rest of this corrupt administration, and thake their ratings even further down.

Damaging the administration, damages Roberts. It's collateral, but it's fact. Cut off the head, and parts of the body will certainly follow.

5. Works for me! Dems should get that as a universal response
and repeat on every show. It will highlight how ridiculous bush*co is being regarding commenting/spinning on rove when they thought they had the OCI under control but the second some TRUTH comes out? No comment.
