OK, it's time for a WH press briefing drinking game.
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 09:05 AM by Spike from MN
Just like the SOTU drinking game but this one is more fun because you get to play it a LOT more often. To make it even more fun, pre- and post-briefing banter by the press corps counts, mainly because they seem to be on a roll lately. Note that "drink" means "sip" in this context, not a full beer or mixed drink.

Event Number of drinks
-------------------- ----------------
Every time Scotty says:
ongoing investigation 1 shot
get to the bottom of this 1
not going to comment 1
appreciate the question 2 shots
prejudge the outcome 1
once the investigation is complete 1
podium 1 shot
context 1 shot
this administration stand up, turn around, and sit down where you started

If Scotty:
breaks down and cries "I want Jeffy" happy dance
attempts to cry 1 shot
tries to garner sympathy for himself point and laugh
tells a reporter to shut up 1
storms off before the briefing is over drink everything in sight, hug your neighbor, and do a happy dance

Every time a reporter says:
Rove 1
leak 1
crime 1
nothing to do with the investigation 2
"President" and "fire" in the same sentence 2

When a reporter:
brings up a previous contradictory Scotty quote 1
repeats a question asked by a previous reporter
that Scotty cut off and didn't answer 1
sneaks in a Rove question by tying it to the
current line of questioning even though the
two are completely unrelated
(e.g. "Is Karl Rove on the shuttle?") 2 shots

It's a pretty short list but it doesn't need to be all that long because from yesterday's briefing, "ongoing investigation" alone would have you doing 7 shots and "Rove" would have you doing 14 drinks. But I'm sure you guys can come up with a few more things to add to the list. ;)

2. So where can I watch the Press Briefing?
I take it, it was on one of the cspan coverages yesterday, but it sure wasn't 1 or 2, because I checked both of them.

6. You can find a list of the press briefings at
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/briefings. I'm sure there are other sites as well but this one is probably the easiest to find.

I don't watch it live.

15. The "drinks" are actually more like sips.
"Drink" doesn't mean a full beer or mixed drink. I tried to take this from the viewpoint of how much Scotty probably drinks these days when he goes home and watches the replay of the press briefing. ;)

8. There should be a trigger, like "this administration..."
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 08:32 AM by IMModerate
for having to stand up, turn around once, and sit down where you started. After five minutes that would get some hilarious results.

13. Give the way things are with the current administration,
it's probably not a bad idea to be semi-comatose until the Chimp is out of office. Hopefully we won't have to wait until 2008 for that to happen. Of course, those next in line to the throne aren't any better but maybe if we go deep enough we'll eventually get to someone that isn't completely horrible.

14. I'll just down a gallon of gin and get it over with, if that's OK with you

Sips *would* be preferable, if you want the players to hang in past the first 3 minutes of the briefing...

:D I find the segments of the briefings they've been showing on the evening news to be, er, most entertaining.

17. Bonus - should be if Scotty just walks off finally...maybe a chugalug?
There really should be a bonus if he just decides to give up...also if he EVEN drops his head and appears to wipe his eyes...any obvious attempt at crying should have a bonus or "penalty" if you will, depending on how you handle your liquor.

Also should be something if he tells a reporter to just shut up, which I believe he is about as close as you can get without actually doing it and then thinking "Did I say that outloud? Oh shit."

:)
