I stopped by my local Democrats' booth at our Farmer's Market
yesterday and had a chat with a Vietnam vet. We got to talking and both saw eye to eye on many things. We started talking about "freedoms" and he said to me, "You can burn a thousand American Flags in the street and I will be pissed. If you take the freedom away that allows people to burn that flag, that will piss me off even more."

He then went on to tell me that when he first went to Vietnam he believed in the war and felt he was serving his country. About half way through his tour, he realized how 'effed up the war was and started speaking out against it. He told me he was almost fragged because he stuck up for Jane Fonda.

3. Spot-on quote:
"You can burn a thousand American Flags in the street and I will be pissed. If you take the freedom away that allows people to burn that flag, that will piss me off even more."

Absolutely perfect.

4. Now that's what America is supposed to be about...
"You can burn a thousand American Flags in the street and I will be pissed. If you take the freedom away that allows people to burn that flag, that will piss me off even more."

7. Local Dems are at my Saturday farmers market too! I think it's great.
:hi:

I like your quote; it reminds me of what Molly Ivins said in the same vein:

"I prefer someone who burns the flag and then wraps themself in the Constitution over someone who burns the Constitution and then wraps themself in the flag."

You go dude, and is that an R.E.M. reference in your handle? ;)

8. That is an REM reference in my handle...
REM, at one time, being my favorite band. I haven't like much that they have done lately, but "Murmur" is my favorite album!
