AK-47's don't kill people

New Orleans police report that a 27 year old man, armed with a 45-caliber handgun, was chased down and shot and killed last night by someone armed with an AK-47 assault rifle. Police say the victim could not get the handgun out of his pocket to return fire.

I guess the NRA would weigh in positively here. Never bring a .45 to an AK-47 fight. I know, I know, we all have the right to own an AK-47. As General Clark invites, if you want to use assault rifles, join the army.

"did not have a chance to pull the gun out of his pocket to return fire."

That's quite different from your statement "the victim could not get the handgun out of his pocket to return fire."

5. Let me be the first to call "bullshit"

The rifle was A) Either not a real AK-47 (i.e. it was semiautomatic), and/or B) Not legally owned. Very likely both are true, i.e. the guy had a criminal record or was an illegal drug user and not allowed to possess any firearm.

I know it may seem picky to some readers that I would focus on such a detail, but it reallllllly bugs me that the media so often mis-report these things and never retract their misinformation.

I know, I know, we all have the right to own an AK-47....

If your state allows it, if you can pass the federal background check, and you can afford the several thousand dollars an entry-leval one would cost you.

That your absolutist attitude about what you think is in the "best interest" for ALL Americans makes me SICK!

Your attuitude of prohibition in this area that is specifically mandated and preserved in the 2nd Amendment is worthy of the abominable preachings of the religious right vis-a-vis abortion.

It is precisely this attitude of exclusion and division which is driving me (and many others like me) in increments away from the Democratic party- to my great anguish.

The Democratic Party is NOT the Socialist Party, the Green Party or the Communist Party.

I wonder if the man wiith the handgun deserved to die? His court was several bullets from a machine gun :eyes:
