All the baggers at the grocery store today were senior citizens
I had a short conversation with the man who bagged my groceries and we started talking about his retirement not being what he had hoped for. He said: "yeah, we have to keep working because Bush never worked"

1. Dang
Retirement is only for the rich now. More and more older people are looking for work along with fresh high school and college grads. Tough to get anything. But at least the war on terrorism can be won by use of tax cuts.

2. Same here.
My husband and I always go together since we buy in bulk and it is easier that way. The baggers are always senior citizens and they always want to help us out. We do not need them to help us but we let them do it anyway because then we can tip them. Half of the time they do not want our tips but we make them take it anyway. It is so sad that retirement is out of the question for so many of our seniors.

5. Soon To be Joined by Retired Airline Workers and Retired Autoworkers
as United defaults on its pensions, and the automakers struggle to
get out of paying theirs.

3. We're working to pay for our funerals
It amazes me that people are suffering financial shit and this administrative circus act still pretends to care about America.

Let me write something I haven't for several weeks now:

I hate Bush
I hate this administration
I hate anyone who voted for them

Too strong? Tough.

but personally, I love it. I've wanted to do that to the Aflec duck for quite some time. :)

6. I think it's so sad
 They should be enjoying their retirement times. Spending time with grandkids and their kids, traveling around the country, spending time with their friends etc. *sigh* Not working at a grocery store! And Bush has the right to say the economy is fine?! I DON'T THINK SO!!!!

9. I think they were making the best of it.
Maybe its just part time for them or part of a year.

In a way, I feel sorry for teenagers because most stores would probably hire a senior before a teenager- assuming they'd be more responsible.

But don't most of us imagine having more time for family, hobbies, travel, or activism when we are retired? The end of having to struggle for every dollar after doing it for 40-50 years? Having all the time in the world to garden?
