I think Matt Lauer is to be commended for not punching Cruise more than once.

(Oh, man, now DeLay is trying to read - he can't READ!)

Cruise has snakes in his head. He even LOOKED nuts.

What we see happening in the African American community today has, in the minds of many, been created: blacks-against-blacks violence, suicide and drug abuse at an all time high, children who cannot read or write and a very high level of unemployment. Psychiatrists involuntarily commit African Americans three to five times as often as they do whites. Psychiatrists diagnose African American men in public and private mental hospitals as having schizophrenia at a rate of up to 1,500 percent higher than white men. African Americans are given significantly higher doses of psychiatric drugs, major tranquilizers, and neuroleptics than are whites. More than twice as many African Americans as whites are classified as mentally retarded. Psychiatry -- heavily financed by the National Institutes of Mental Health along with this Community Mental Health Centers Program, which began in 1963 -- has been, in the minds of many, destructive in the oppression of the African Americans. Community health centers have provided numerous frontline sales outlets operating within the fabric of society, entrapping greater numbers of unwitting victims. The growth of this network parallels the declining statistics among African Americans.

20. I actually think it made for interesting debate.
Tom's demeanor seemed a bit aggressive but he made some decent points in his side of the debate. Psychiatry is a a tad bit shadier than other forms of medical practice because the determination of chemical inbalance doesn't actually occur via blood test.

I spent a lot of my youth on anti-depressants and my friend was on Ritalin and I think neither medication actually helped us. My depression started to become under control when I wasn't on meds and was able to take responsibility for my condition myself. So I am not the highest on using meds to control the emotions of children whom are suffering from things I don't think drugs can control (i.e. new situations, difficult environment, more responsibility, self image, hormonal emergence, etc.).

36. WTF?
He said that there is no such thing as brain chemical imbalance. I have a daughter who is Bi-Polar. She was without meds twice in her life and went totally irrational and hyper delusional. Long story and am shortening it but the 1st time we didn't know she was Bi-Polar and she went into a high state of hyper mania. She had to be hospitalized. The 2nd time she stopped taking her meds because she was talked out of doing so by some guy that had the same perspective as Mr. Cruise. She went completely manic.

Mr. Cruise may have a general point that Americans might rely too much upon medications but to say Psychiatry is a psuedo-Science is bogus. Psychiatrists are MDs 1st then 4 more years of training after that.

In my view what is psuedo Science is Scientology.

41. Tom Cruise should continue to attempt becoming an actor
and leave science to the scientists.

Oh, you know what I mean!

I think he should bunk with 5 mentally ill people for 2 months (on meds 1 month, and 1 month off)

Then he can mouth off about it. If he heals anyone with a "laying on of hands", more power to 'em.

33. Think about it
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 07:28 PM by ls317
After he divorced Nicole Kidman, she had her down moments made a few shitty movies made some decent movies. She slowly got on with her life, spite the fact of taking her divorce rather hard.
But in the end she came back like a champion and finally seemed happy for once with her life on several levels.
So tom goes thru a few women and it doesn't work for him, Lets see Katie Homes vs Ms Cruz... Personally thats not an upgrade at all... Its lots of steps backwards ...
Nicole is finally happy on the romance front and there is a chance she may get married again. Tom wants everyone to look at him and care about his personal love life.. Thats why the crazy ass stunts..Come on Katie Homes a 27 year old playing teenage roles, hell she couldn't act her way out of a paperbag..
There are some movies that I like of Tom Cruise , but the luster is starting to dull from his star.. War of the Worlds will be huge at the boxoffice...

Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 07:36 PM by BattyDem

:wow:

Does anyone else think there's going to be at least one tragedy as a result of his rantings? You know what I mean ... a woman who's suffering from post-partum depression, yet refuses to get help because drugs and therapy are "bad" - then she ends up killing her baby; or a teen who stops taking Ritalin or some other drug and ends up killing himself.

While I agree that this country is grossly over-medicated, I don't think the answer is discouraging people from getting help when they need it! What an ass! :grr:
