I just did... I sent this to my Congress Critter....
Dear Madamn,
While listening to the proceedings in DC, (and riding a minor quake here), I looked back into the letter and its signatories. Thank you for signing it. I am among the citizens who signed it.
Yesterday this was a good start, the start of a long process. Trust me it was sweet to hear the reasons for impeachment from a Constitutional Lawyer. I am realistic and know who controls the Congress, and I do not expect these very honest and upstanding citizens to eat one of their own. There is a big difference between the GOP of 1974 (remember it was GHW Bush, in his capacity as Chairman of the GOP who wrote a letter urging President Nixon to resign) and today's snake pit. I am positive for them this is about power, raw power, not the Nation or the Constitution... and Bush could rape a young prepubescent kid on the East Lawn of the White House in prime time on national T.V. and they will find a way to excuse it and explain their values.
That does not mean we don't fight. We continue to fight, and we continue to educate. What we are fighting is for the future of the Country. We are fighting either for the Republic and the reestablishment of the primacy of law, or the end of the Republic and a police state. So we need to continue fighting.
Now I will confess, as a trained historian the current environment, which started in 1998, reminds me of the preliminaries for a hot civil war. They have divided the country where I do fear that this will go down that route. If it does, so be it. As a veteran of combat I don't relish that prospect, neither does my husband, again a veteran of combat. (Big disclaimer I did not do it with the US Military, but if you ever want details of what went on in TJ oh during the same time as portrayed by that fine documentary called Traffic, I will sure regale you with it)
Anyhow, keep fighting, some of us do pay very close attention to what is going on in DC right at the moment. Speaking of other scandals... ain't it cute how Randi "Duke" Cunningham got what it looks like a bribe? If it walks like a bribe and it looks like a bribe... I don't expect the Ethics Committee to look into it... again as a Historian this House is not that unlike another House... that served during the Guilded Age.
Remember though, we've got your back.
Sincerely,
