US lied to Britain over use of napalm in Iraq war
US lied to Britain over use of napalm in Iraq war

By Colin Brown, Deputy Political Editor
17 June 2005

American officials lied to British ministers over the use of "internationally reviled" napalm-type firebombs in Iraq.

Yesterday's disclosure led to calls by MPs for a full statement to the Commons and opened ministers to allegations that they held back the facts until after the general election.

Despite persistent rumours of injuries among Iraqis consistent with the use of incendiary weapons such as napalm, Adam Ingram, the Defence minister, assured Labour MPs in January that US forces had not used a new generation of incendiary weapons, codenamed MK77, in Iraq.

But Mr Ingram admitted to the Labour MP Harry Cohen in a private letter obtained by The Independent that he had inadvertently misled Parliament because he had been misinformed by the US. "The US confirmed to my officials that they had not used MK77s in Iraq at any time and this was the basis of my response to you," he told Mr Cohen. "I regret to say that I have since discovered that this is not the case and must now correct the position."

17. Americans have not told the truth since 1776? Holy shit!
No wonder the neocons's are after all of us. We've really got to shape up and fast!

Village, quit living up to your name. My comment was related to current events, not the whole history of the US.

2. Has anyone seen a poll that shows Bu$h did not lie to get us
into this occupation? Yesterday, the on line polls I saw were 90+% "Bush misled".

(Thank you, MoveOn for the label.)

14. Yes, fooj, they are "full on war criminals". The war is illegal. Their ...
... use of torture is illegal. Their lies to the Congress and the American people are illegal.

Thus, they will do everything they can to stay in power because they know that once they become subject to the law they will all be prosecuted.

Peace.

12. If the ordinance is banned by top brass...
then it wouldn't be loaded on the plane to begin with, would it?

16. Official wire: "Does the US Even Know How To Tell The Truth Anymore?"
Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 12:59 PM by understandinglife
That's Official Wire headline for the UK Independent article.
http://news.baou.com/main.php?action=recent&rid=20288

From the Islamic Republic News Agency, Iran, we have:
"US 'lied' in denying the use of napalm in Iraq, UK admits"
http://www.irna.ir/en/news/view/line-20/0506171617193059.htm

And someone wonders 'why they hate us'.......

Peace.
