One more reason to hate Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart store tells workers to be ready to work any shift
NITRO, W.Va. (AP) — Workers at a West Virginia Wal-Mart (WMT) store have been ordered to be available to work any shift at any time or face dismissal.

The new "open-availability" policy at the Wal-Mart store in Nitro is needed to ensure there is adequate staff during peak hours, said John Knuckles, a manager at the store.

"We have many people with set schedules who aren't here when we need them for our customers," Knuckles said.

2. Can't wait to see our resident Wal-Mart defenders spin this one:
"It's only ONE store!"
"It's a GOOD business practice!"
"The store's looking out for its STOCKHOLDERS! What else do you expect them to do?"

4. That's why plantations had slave quarters, right?
Isn't it nice they've been able to forego the expense of housing? :eyes:

5. In a state of desperation
We had to go to a Wal-mart (we cringed and then prayed for forgiveness) when we blew two fuses at some ungodly hour of the night.

We noticed two things while we were there (have not set foot in one in many, many years): The smell is really, really bad. I mean the whole place smelled like sweat and like someone, well, took a leak in the housewares aisle. The second thing? The staff. Unhappy, dour looking people with plenty of "flair" on their suspenders, but no smile or honest words of assistance to be found.

These folks must just HATE their jobs. My God how awful that place is.

7. I don't like Walmart either-they suck! But...
Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 11:12 AM by TheGoldenRule
for the most part the employees I've come in contact with have been nice, helpful and kind people. Which amazes me given the kind of crap and low pay they have to put up with from their corporate masters. I've been treated far worse by la de da salespeople at the mall or in upper crust shops than I have at Walmart. I truly feel compassion and sympathy for these people who have few other options but to work at Walmart.
