So let me get this right .......
the 'button' won't be pushed on the 'Nuclear Option' tonight ... or tomorrow concerning these Judges, and they get to have their I know ever one is tired of hearing it .. 'up-or-down-vote'. We get to keep the filibuster for now. Step back from the 'brink' ...... and Frist can push the button at some later date, maybe concerning legislative matters instead ? Kinda like the Cuban Missle Crisis been averted but who know what the future holds? The Republic has been saved for now ......... is this where we are at tonight? input ..... need input .... Peace. :freak:

10. From the text of the memo of understanding -

B. Rules Changes. In light of the spirit and continuing commitments made in this agreement, we commit to oppose the rules changes in the 109th Congress, which we understand to be any amendment to or interpretation of the Rules of the Senate that would force a vote on a judicial nomination by means other than unanimous consent or Rule XXII.

They can't change the rules throughout this session of congress.

6. Also trying to understand
this whole thing......

Rogers, Owens and Pryor will get their vote in the Senate, right?

Were deals cut to make sure that some would pass and others wouldn't?

Two others will be filibustered.?....don't know much about those two...

The right to filibuster Supreme court nominees in the future is preserved....as is Frist's right to try to pull the trigger on the nuclear option in the future....right?

This looks like our side decided that filibustering SCOTUS nominees is more important than these judges.....

I dunno....strategically I suppose it's better than a defeat....

14. Baloney.
Just like the IWR said no attack until "All other options" were exhausted. But go ahead, keep believing what the Repugs say to get their way.

9. The "republic has been saved" with 3 new rightwing judges?
Yeah. Like we got a really good deal by the Dems who voted for the IWR to prevent the war.

Pass the vaseline for the next good deal they provide us with.

16. And, your point is?
Should they have fought against them being appointed, instead of caving?

I think so.

19. My point is that I want results.
If the GOP gets these 2 or 3 judges anyway, then the fight is pointless.

This deal cedes the district courts judges, but gives us about the best protection we can expect for the filibuster of Supreme Court justices. Of course it's not ironclad, but so long as the GOP holds the majority in the Senate, we'll never have a guarantee that they won't go nuclear.

The only alternative to a deal like this is to play chicken with the GOP Senators by holding up business in the Senate. Given the stubbornness of the Republicans and the fact that they have the media in their pocket, our chances of success would be grim.

If we lose the ability to filibuster Supreme Court justices, Roe v. Wade gets overturned. We can't fuck around rolling the dice just to look tough.
