Oil for Food, Flushable Koran, Successful Operation Matador..
Notice a pattern??

Where is Delay?
Where is filibuster?
Where is Social Security?
Where is UK memo?

Mission Accomplished, indeed?

1. It's validation that they have absolute power
At least they think they do.

2. You betcha!
And it's not as if this business about the Koran being desecrated is coming as a new shock to the Arab/Muslim world!

3. You mean, now that Newsweak has been bullied into retracting the story...
...all those angry protestors in the streets won't just pack it up and go home?

"Well, never mind -- just a misunderstanding"
"Oh, I guess I'm overreacting. Damned Newsweek!"
"Ah, well, that makes sense. Sorry for the trouble."

4. Hmmm, Let me put this delicately...

No Condi, No Rummy I don't think they're just going to pack up and go home ;)

Have you read this story?

http://www.masnet.org/news.asp?id=2438

Has Newsweek really recanted? What I've seen so far seems more like fine Kerryesque nuancing but sticking to their guns ;) I really feel for Newsweek and especially for Isikoff because it's not like they broke a major story for heaven's sake! Anyway, I thought that article was interesting and am eager to see their "apology" in print. It's a sad day when the Reich Ministry of Propaganda can bully respectable journalists into recanting known stories!

On edit- I'm at work and a bit out of today's loop but I'm seeing a lot of noise at DU about a developing story that they're retracting the story. Is this true?

Heil Hitler!

5. There's almost too much spin to tell what Newsweak actually recanted
This is the closest I've seen to a concrete statement:

"Based on what we know now, we are retracting our original story that an internal military investigation had uncovered Quran abuse at Guantanamo Bay," Whitaker said.

So it seems they've retracted the story that said a military investigation uncovered Quran abuse at Gitmo. They do not say they do not think it happened -- yet. I'm sure that after a few more hours with Bush administration 'clarifiers' (I think that's a job title), they'll come around and say they made up the whole thing...
