Contrasting headlines on Ecuador. It's like parallel universes!
Edited on Mon May-16-05 11:51 AM by ztn
One goes into the real story of political and social unrest rooted in corruption, oil and the World Bank. This has caused no President to serve a full term since 1996. New Leaders promise to help reverse the trend but never do as they become slaves of the WB and are forced to hand over enormous amounts of OIL REVENUE to bondholders while many live in poverty. So the people revolt. Pretty simple!

one goes into intervention by the Organization of American States (OAS) and well:

"The mission's report blamed Ecuador's troubles on, among other things, political parties jostling to control the judiciary and ``volatile parliamentary majorities, weak political alliances, a multiplicity of parties and blocs with scant party loyalty, constant threats of presidential impeachment or removal"

In other words, BLA BLA BLA. They allude to "unrest" but NEVER actually say why!
