1. Our ambassador should register a protest and leave for a month.

This is just disgusting. It makes me sick at heart. What a bigot. We bail his lousy behind out every day by taking in people he can't feed and who would probably revolt against him if our borders were nor so porous on purpose.

2. Fox
What can you say? Fox, like his counterpart in the US, is a cowboy . . . btw, did you happen to read a couple of the comments posted on this Yahoo topic? Talk about racist!! It's hard to criticize Fox when you read these comments by US citizens. DU-ers who question our mods' policy of editing divisive and tasteless comments should be subjected to a few of the comments found on Yahoo tonight.

4. Of course he should!
He should issue a formal apology... in Europe he would have been forced to resign!

It is outrageous, and I'm glad he'll be gone next year.

Edited on Sun May-15-05 02:50 AM by Erika
so no apoligies between friends. Fox knows Bush backs illegals and SS for them. Bush knows they will supply cheap labor to employers. So the issue will be moot. And the American worker, once again, loses.

24. I've been thinking, Bush's handlers have dropped the ball on this
one. If Bush had made some kind of statement reprimanding Fox about that comment, his image would have improved among some blacks. And I said some blacks....not me, though.:-)

25. I would agree with you...
...if he was just a dude who said that to his friend.

But since he's the head of a state, everything he says is, in a way, an official statement of his coutnry. An apology would mean "this isn't the official position of my country."

26. Condi Rice should make it clear that Republicans hate illegal Mexicans.
That would be perfect, IMO.

It's ridiculous that in this day and age people make these backhanded comments toward black people. Until the Africans start bombing everyone. Though, the US hasn't sold them any weapons yet. That'll probably be the first sign.

36. Fox's comments....
Edited on Sun May-15-05 01:52 PM by ariesgem
MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexican President Vicente Fox called recent U.S. measures to stem illegal immigration a step back for bilateral relations on Friday and said Mexican migrants do jobs "that not even blacks want to do."

In comments likely to raise the temperature of the immigration debate, Fox defended the role of undocumented Mexican workers in the United States to a group of Texas business people meeting in Mexico.

"There is no doubt that Mexicans, filled with dignity, willingness and ability to work are doing jobs that not even blacks want to do there in the United States," he said in a speech broadcast in part on local radio and reported on newspaper web sites.

I had the article up and just copied what was in the address. I don't know what went wrong but if you open the link and click on the story it should bring you to the article with the quote.
