Bush not told about plane scare until after biking
Updated: 7:43 p.m. ET May 11, 2005

WASHINGTON - President George W. Bush was not told for nearly an hour while he finished a bike ride about a breach in White House airspace on Wednesday that prompted the highest alert since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, the White House said.

***

Bush was about a half-an-hour into his ride at the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center in Maryland when an unidentified Cessna airplane came near the White House, sending the Secret Service scrambling to evacuate Vice President Dick Cheney and move First Lady Laura Bush to a secure location.

***

McClellan said Bush was informed about the incident around 12:50 p.m. at the end of his ride. He left the reserve around 12:57 p.m. and returned to the White House at around 1:30 p.m., well after the security scare had ended.

***

Bush had left the White House at about 11:03 a.m. and had arrived at Patuxent for the bike ride at 11:34 a.m.

Does this idiot ever work?

Cheney was in charge again, just like on 9/11.

I see that Bush didnt return to the WH until 7 minutes after he heard the news about the plane. I guess someone must have been reading to him, and he got scared.

"It's hard work." over and over and then basically spit in the fucking face of the American people by doing absolutely NOTHING. He doesn't read critical intelligence memos and he can't fucking give a "press conference" without being fed his talking points through a hump on his back.

I've worked for a major studio for years, and a typical live action shooting schedule can run 14 hours a day, easily. The celebrities I've met are people with an amazing amount of energy, but very little free time. Even if they do only one film that year, it's on average a three month shoot with brutal hours-more than * could possibly handle.

There's another trail used for a tram--specifically NOT for hiking. Was the tram trail closed down for Bush's Field Trip--or the whole environmental center?

The place is a wildlife refuge with a research component. The public is welcome for education & hiking, but recreation is not the main purpose.

11. I was working on a pretty long document that will
serve as the basis for a course for teachers this summer.

When I took breaks, I was sending out emails and checking my voice mail.

Also doing some last-minute edits on a paper due in my graduate-level class last night.

And that was a slow day.

Glad to hear he can just randomly go on two and a half hour long bike rides in the middle of the work week.

Now someone want to tell me how he's "working" on those bike rides? Or when he's "clearing brush?"

He's the most non-working president I have ever seen. Probably that the US has ever seen.

Remember before 9/11? The press reported (back when they weren't afraid to report the truth) that Bush woke up, ate breakfast, worked out, ate lunch, played video games, took a nap, worked out, then had dinner, then went to bed after watching TV. THAT is the schedule of our great leader! He doesn't give a fuck. He's gotten away with everything his whole life. He's a fraud.. he's not a leader, not a politician, not a born-again Christian (he went thru that program in D.C. that teaches politicians how to look like one), not a moral leader... he's an overaged frat boy playing a role to help his family get rich. Cheney is running the Country.. always has. Bush was flown all over here and hell during 9/11 because 1) he's a coward 2) Cheney told him to stay the fuck outta the way while he and Poppy worked.

http://www.wonkette.com/politics/white-house/index.php#speedreading-with-the-president-103168

On our bike rides, we pretty much confine our reading to our heart-rate monitors. Not so the President, who as the photo at right reveals, enjoys more literary fare. What's particularly interesting about the photo, which was taken today, is that the book the President's clutching is Tom Wolfe's celebration of the sex-soaked, booze-drenched lives of college students, I Am Charlotte Simmons. In February, NYT's Elisabeth Bumiller reported that Bush had already read the book and was "enthusiastically recommending it to friends." Now, three months later, he's apparently still deeply engaged with it. So maybe it's like his official daily reading, the Bible. The good parts are worth reading over and over.

Someone should try telling fundies that Bush is reading that book and tell how it's his favorite. ;) Imagine their reactions when they read this book. This really shows a lot about his character I think. I remember hearing that when Bush was younger at the RNC (I think he was first married to Laura or either married for a while and had their kids) and Poppy was the nomination for president and they asked junior what he and his father liked to talk about and they said pu&&&. Does anybody know about that? I'd love to show a video of that to some W faithful I know.

It's no mystery why Gov. Bush is the worst "president" ever. Remember, the story of the writer who stayed at the house in Kennebunkport? He reported that he wanted something to read and the only book he could find was "The Fart Book."

37. I did not know that!

Googled the Fart Book and found some interesting Amazon reviews:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0880321318/002-5751192-7524029?v=glance

And this, the story you mentioned:

One of the major themes in Kelley's book is the family's weakness for liquor and drugs. Alcoholism, she writes, runs deeply in the family and among its victims, according to one Bush family friend, was Prescott, a "major-league alcoholic", who was in the habit of checking himself into his men's club and country club to go on benders. And Kelley writes that George W Bush is not the only one in the first family who enjoyed illegal substances. While a student at Southern Methodist University in the 1960s, first lady Laura Bush was known "as a go-to girl for dime bags of marijuana".

But, as one of W's Yalie frat brothers tells Kelley, it's not the substance abuse in Bush's past that's disturbing, it's the "lack of substance ... Georgie, as we called him, had absolutely no intellectual curiosity about anything. He wasn't interested in ideas or in books or causes. He didn't travel; he didn't read the newspapers; he didn't watch the news; he didn't even go to the movies. How anyone got out of Yale without developing some interest in the world besides booze and sports stuns me." New Yorker writer Brendan Gill recalls roaming the Kennebunkport compound one night while staying there looking for a book to read - the only title he could find was The Fart Book.

According to Kelley, the Bushes aggressively maintain their all-American family image by scrubbing government files of embarrassing facts, stonewalling journalists, and terrorising critics. "Some people felt that George's past did not seep out and embarrass him and his family," she writes of the White House's current Bush, "because he was protected by a coterie of former CIA men with an allegiance to his father." An Austin, Texas political consultant named Peck Young told Kelley that when a woman claiming to have been a call girl from Midland showed up in Austin with "intimate knowledge" of W during his oil wildcatting days, she was approached by what she described as "intelligence types" and left town abruptly. According to Young, the men "made her realise that it was better to turn tricks in Midland than to stop breathing".

38. At work.
Where all hard working American's were. I wish I had a few hours off in the day to go for a leisurely bike ride. What an asshat our "leader" is.

52. And he's in bed by 9:00pm every night - except 9/11.
He had to stay up until the ungodly hour of 10:00pm. I don't know about you, but I couldn't sleep that night. But the resident moron was in dreamland by 10:30pm.

54. Yes, and it was *awfully funny* when the SS woke them up
and they had to rush to the bunker in their slippers! Aw geez, those were some good times! Remember, Laura? And you didn't have your contacts or anything?

I myself did not sleep for days after 9/11. I live a mile directly north of the WTC. Tried to sleep but just laid on the couch, fully dressed, with the TV on, in case something else happened. Days, weeks, months of pure terror and grief. Anthrax in NY. Bomb threats, evacuations. Fear of the subway. Missing flyers everyplace you looked. Smoke.

But according to Bush it was "a fabulous year."

57. That's awful...I can't imagine what it must have been like for you.
I'm in California, so I could only watch what was happening. You had to live it. I hope things are better for you now.

They only interrupt his leisure activities if it's going to be to his political advantage.

It is an absolute shame that this embarrassment is our "President".

61. Does that asshole masquerading as President ever really work?
On 9/11, the bastard is reading a children's book in a Florida classroom.

On 5/11, riding a damn bike, and his people don't even tell him about the so-called threat.

62. He's out of the loop.
He's just the spokesmodel - he doesn't have an actual role in the organization.

66. Bush just got caught doing what he does everyday, not working.
He's just like the son of employer I had several years ago, it was understood that the son was not in charge, he just had the title.

You went to his cousin, who really ran the company.

This son would attend meetings and other functions but he had no control over the company, period.

If he said anything you just said OK but would ignore what he said.

Bush is not in charge, never been in charge, why would they tell him anything.

Uncle Dick is in charge, he is just the same as the cousin who really ran the company I worked for.

I doubt Bush can tie his own shoes.
