Dobson: Lott Has Brokered Deal on Filibuster
If this is true, does this mean I have to force myself to respect Trent Lott.

By Chad Groening and Jody Brown
May 10, 2005

(AgapePress) - A prominent pro-family leader says he is "disgusted and alarmed" that Mississippi Republican Senator Trent Lott appears ready to cut a deal with Senate Democrats to preserve their right to filibuster President Bush's judicial nominees.

On Tuesday (May 10), Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family told Don Wildmon, chairman and founder of the American Family Association, that a "totally reliable source" informed him that the senior senator from Mississippi has arranged a deal that would effectively prevent Majority Leader Bill Frist from invoking the constitutional option -- sometimes referred to as the "nuclear option" -- to stop the Democrats' continued filibuster against the president's conservative judicial nominees.

9. Absolutely, that's part of it...
Frist is the guy that replaced him... He hasn't forgotten. They screwed him. As much as he loves his Party, he hates Frist even more.

12. TOO TRUE!
Right-wing revisionists try to rewrite history and make it seem like it was the evil liberals that were gunning for Lott after the comments. In fact, he was under great pressure from the White House and right-wing pundits to step down- he obviously hasn't forgotten. I can't stand Trent Lott but even he looks reasonable next to the Bill Frists and Tom DeLays of the current Republican party.

4. Wow, out of left field
He's one of the last people I would have thought to be a rules guy. I always pegged him to be a neo-com fascist (he still is), but it seems war makes strange bedfellows...

5. Ah, the RELIABLE XTIAN NEWS SOURCE!!!!
Jeez, what I read between the lines is this:

Lott still has power.
--Subtext: Frist isn't delivering.

The Fundies don't like it.
--Subtext: Let's tell them what they don't like, they are too dumb to sort it out on their own.

Someone from the WH planted this story to keep the far religious right motivated.

Let them tear themselves apart, the fools!

7. LOL!
Oh yeah, Agape Press, one of my sick morbid fascinations. If you ever want to be reminded how feminism is ruining the world, and how Planned Parenthood is like the Holocaust and slavery, they're happy to oblige.

10. That fits right in with the Lakoff model.
Lott has been disowned, thrown out of the family, as it were. He is not to be respected or even acknowledged if possible. He is on his own. Frist is now the "father" of this particular family, and he is to be obeyed without question.

6. Anyone with half a brain has got to support the
filibuster for now and the future. I think the more seasoned pols realize this is a non-starter. But this is good news because we are living in a twilight zone.

11. Looks like someone is behind
on their "voluntary" faith gifts to HocusPocus on the Family.

Pay up Trent, and we'll make the story disappear.
