friends grew up in Walla Walla Washington--and I can ask her anything.
Her grandparents still live there and she visits a few times a year. It is a pretty small town--I believe she knows everyone who lives there! (I have never had a real small town experience--so I am a bit jealous--I have always wanted to experience that kind of life--although I would probably want to be in the big city permanently.)
Is there a variety of music to listen to live? How do the towns people like the college and the students? Are there health food stores around? Whats to do on weekends? He is a really smart kid but he isn't handcuffed to the school books. We just want to make sure he can adjust to a town this size after growing up a half hour from San Francisco. Any information on the strengths or weaknesses of hospitals or emergency rooms at Walla Walla General and St Mary's would be appreciated. How are the winters? We are so spoiled with Cali weather.
but judging from what she has said in the past--(pulling this from my memory) Walla Walla itself is a quite small town.
It didn't sound like there was a lot of live music in town when she lived there--or much interest in health food stores.
She used to go fishing with her grandpa a lot on the weekends. It didn't sound like a real exciting place (if you are used to being near SF--it sounded more like Mayberry).
But--the townspeople sound extremely nice.
I will call her as soon as I can and try to find out more.
7. Thanks alot, our son is a hs junior, I am sure this fall or late
summer we will try to vist. I'm just wondering if the trade off of a great school is worth the very small town. Although friendly people as opposed to the pace here would be nice. People in my town rarely even say hi passingby on a walk.
Melinda used to be allowed to bike all over the place by herself or with her friends--and take long walks to the store etc. Her family did not worry about her safety at all--and she was about 6 at the time. Many of the people in town did not lock their doors either.
A lot of them were related to each other--or families friendly for many years. So it seemed like a great "Mayberry" type of place.
Melinda also enjoyed the local Indians--there is a tribe that did a lot of things in the area--some very interesting and neat people. But--defiitely not much nightclub type of excitement unless it has changed a lot in the past decade or so.
