Bush changes rules to allow roads, logging, in WILDERNESS areas
Bush will not be happy until the whole country resembles the barren wasteland of his "ranch".

====

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration, in one of its biggest decisions on environmental issues, moved Thursday to open up nearly a third of all remote national forest lands to road building, logging and other commercial ventures.

The 58.5 million acres involved, mainly in Alaska and in western states, had been put off limits to development by former
President Clinton, eight days before he left office in January 2001.

Under existing local forest management plans, some 34.3 million acres of these pristine woodlands could be opened to road construction. That would be the first step in allowing logging, mining and other industry and wider recreational uses of the land. Under proposed rules, new management plans have to be written for the other 24.2 million acres before road building can commence...

Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns said in announcing the rule that his agency "is committed to working closely with the nation's governors to meet the needs of our local communities while protecting and restoring the health and natural beauty of our national forests." (hahaha)

6. That means my home state...
Washington... WA has to be among them. These bastards have done enough damage!!! Washington, and Oregon, are two of the most beautiful states in the country and still have a good amount of forested areas... looks like they are gonna start looking like the rest of the country. :cry:

3. this is beyond sickening ---
I knew he'd been wanting to do this for some time - the little coward just waited until his second term, when he couldn't be held accountable for this wanton rape of the land.

Just when I thought I couldn't hate him any more than I already do...

8. Bush is Creating Hell On Earth!
Why does the USA have to be part of *'s hedonistic sacrifices of people and property? Is this revenge for his SS fiasco?

May this sink *'s "approval" ratngs to Nixon's level right before his resignation!

12. You won't believe what this fucker did in KY,
We have had a huge chunk of national forest around London ky where people camped, fished, rode dirt bikes,4 wheelers, dune buggys for at least 30 years. Well,2 years ago they closed it down to the public sopposedly because of erosion. I was back through that area about 6 months ago and stopped by to see what was going on at the place I used to love so much. Guess what?,they cut 30 foot wide logging roads all over the place, the streams are all full of silt and they are clearcutting all the trees. This is in a very rural section of the state so no one will ever hear about it. I'm sure this is happening in other parts of the country also.
