1. Yep - that's a great organization
They ran some good ads near election time. Nonpartisan, but very powerful.

2. They are a good org, but their executive director is an ass...
Paul Rieckhoff publicly denounced the 3/19 demo at Fayetteville, NC as being "protesting the troops", and his comments were picked up and run with by all kinds of RW organizations and news services.

Never mind the fact that the primary organizers behind that demo were military families and veterans, including a group I'm heavily involved with, Iraq Veterans Against the War (www.ivaw.net).

Rieckhoff holds political ambitions, and is trying to distance himself from the antiwar movement. Also, he works as the executive director of a non-profit corporation yet he maintains a residence in Manhattan. It makes one wonder where all that money is coming from, and where it is going....

3. Whoa. The photo gallery is touching.
I just forwarded the link to my listserve.
Too bad about its exec. Never-the-less, a heart warming, sad, necessary website.

4. Oh yeah - I remember reading about that here
I think I blocked it out since it totally contradicted my impression of the organization...That really sucks. There is a really good Peace organization in my area and they recently had some folks from IVAW in Ann Arbor to speak, but I wasn't able to go. We have a Veterans for Peace chapter here though, I have some friends involved.

5. Liked the ivaw site
I stumbled across the site I posted and read several of the letters and other items from the soldiers. Didn't seem to be much out there from the actual folks on the ground. Liked the "ivaw" site and will review it often. I'm a Viet Nam vet, don't think you can get any better opinion of whats really going on in the street unless you hear from the people that are witnessing it everyday.

Good post, thanks!
