On ABC This Week ... Rummy looks uncertain and frightened.
He looks like the fellow caught with his hand in the cookie jar. His answers to Georgie S.'s question are tenuous at best. Psychologically, these guys are on the run.

1. Rummy was on the defensive big time.
No "bon mots" from him today and I was LOVIN' every minute of it.

I loathe this guy.

2. Wow how come such a difference of opinion here?
RichM has a post here that says Rummy and Condi did pretty well and it is a minor distraction...or something like that. Yet I see other posters saying they're cracking!

I didn't watch any of the shows, but I have been reading the headlines on MSNBC, ABC, Reuters, Post, etc. online and...

THEY'RE CRACKING!!!!

4. It's wishfull thinking!
If anyone was sweating it was George Stephanopoulos. He was totally unprepared and Rummy had him for breakfast.

6. Since I didn't watch, can you give me an example?
Of how unprepared George was and Rummy ate him?

I heard Rummy said "I don't know" a lot and repeated the same gibberish that is now headlines everywhere as LIES.

They can keep spinning, but their "truthfulness" is now totally in question by everyone except the zealots on the right.

11. What were you watching?
I saw Rummy looking like he was going to stroke out, wringing his hands, shifty eyed, and bumbling...Steph did'nt have to do squat, Rummy did it for him!

5. Smell their fear! Smell the rot!
It gets worse and worse, day after day. It's kind of like the corpse of Addie Bundren as she rots in her homemade coffin, on the back of a mule-drawn wagon in the blazing Mississippi sun, in Faulkner's As I Lay Dying. Soon, the vultures will be circling. That will be the media, which doesn't give a shit until it gets a whiff of rotting carrion. The Bu$h regime is well into a putrid rot.

8. Yup. I smell it. I remember the smell from Watergate.
It's just too bad the media can't go after the evil deeds of the Bush administration instead of their coverup of the evil deeds.

9. We Don't Know What We Don't Know
He sounded so cute a couple of months ago when he did that riff on what we know and what we don't know. Now we're in Category Four: we're clueless, and we don't know how clueless we are.

13. He was tap dancing..
on MTP, he was tap dancing as hard as he could and you could see he was dodging and weaving, but he is a real pro at looking relaxed whilst doing so, but he did a get a bit snappy at times

14. WOOO WOOO! Rummy takes it on the chin!
The ship is starting to sink and the rats are arguing about who gets into the lifeboats! Rummy was the same old crusty asshole, but this time his bullying routine isn't making the questioners back off!

I want to see all the major players in this criminal investigation carried out of our White House in shame. They pulled a coup in 2000...well, now it's our time!

16. I heard about it. I heard he was stuttering and angry and going nuts.
My daughter, who is not very political and until recently thought * was a shoe-in in '04, called me to say Rummy was going bonkers, bouncing off the wall. She said it was hilarious. I've got to think this was quite a show.

There were questions he didn't answer, even.

18. With minimal effort, Steph showed the real Rumsfeld to the American people
By simply questioning him in a straightforward manner and at points refusing to drop the subject, he had Rumsfeld shouting and sweating and generally acting like the angry moron he is. Rumsfeld completely lost his cool, and at points I thought he might try and smack George. It was fucking fantastic, and I'm very proud of Steph for having the balls and the composure to get Rumsfeld sweating without really seeming that confrontational.

20. "But George - you're not LISTENING!"
Edited on Sun Jul-13-03 02:50 PM by poppabear36
THAT had me laughing my ass off.
I thought he had Tim Russert for breakfast on MTP in what was a too deferential and lazy line of questioning.
You could tell that George really wasn't going to allow any of the parsing of statements and phrases - this sort of "How could you POSSIBLY hold me accountable for any statements I've made in the past, what kind of fool are you" attitude that Rumsfeld used to cow TR.
Rumsfeld's arrogance IS intimidating. He reminds me of my high school headmaster.
It's going to take some real Men and Women to stand up and call these folks out on their lies.

21. Aiy Yi Yi Yi!!!!
That kind of talk is so callous and inappropriate. While I'm sure that's how all the pols talk in private meetings, that is really a cruel thing for all the parents/spouses/etc. of soldier to hear on Sunday morning.

He's probably right, more will die, but he shouldn't sound jovial about it. Is he Goebbels?
