When The New York Times, “Nightline,” and CNN nominate a young blonde for sainthood ahead of the Pope, it’s time for a reality check.

Especially when that blonde, Marla Ruzicka’s sole purpose is to legitimize our enemies, cause problems for U.S. troops already in harms way, and morally equivocate dead terrorists with victims of 9/11.

Jane Fonda lite—but unfortunately without having been spat upon by right-thinking veterans.

The recent death of Ruzicka, an American “activist” in Iraq, elicited an orgy of gush—everywhere from Time Magazine to The Guardian of London to Al-Jazeera....

Schlussel dances on Marla's grave, defying all the rules of logic and moral sense, shrieking all the while that the death of this young saint is "justice." This is brazen evil: an uglier sight would be hard to imagine. Naturally, the malevolent troll Horowitz was one of the few conservative media outlets to publish this trash, and even many of his readers were horrified. Lucianne.com – run by Lucianne Goldberg, mother of National Review editor Jonah Goldberg – featured it as an "editor's pick," and the comments that accompanied the article were uniformly gloating in their glee at Marla's death. Meanwhile, over at Free Republic, the online comment board for Bush-League neo-fascists, the shouts of joy at the news of Marla's grisly demise were ecstatic.

It's time to draw the line against this increasingly assertive evil –by making an example out of Schlussel. Her piece goes way over the line, and those who posted it and approved it have to take a share of the responsibility. It's time to hold these people accountable for their ugliness, and force them to clean up their act – or else. Schlussel has a column at "Conservative Town Hall," at WorldNet Daily, and she writes frequently for the New York Post. Write to these folks, send them a copy of Schlussel's "dance of death" column, and politely inquire as to whether this is the sort of columnist they think ought to be gracing their pages. Write to David Horowitz and demand an apology. That fat old gasbag, always so full of self-righteousness, ought to get down on his knees and beg forgiveness from Marla's staunchly Republican parents, who are prostrate with grief.

There are plenty of young American men and women Ruzicka’s age and younger who’ve been brutalized or killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. But none of them got the wall-to-wall fawning coverage that Ruzicka got—unless they were anally raped or formerly played pro football.

That should tell you something about the media’s outlook on whose life is more worthy and whose death is more important: American soldiers fighting for freedom—bad; vociferous activist bimbette hampering those American soldiers and helping their terrorist killers—very, very good.

Maybe because your dipshit cowardly leader has prohibited anybody from giving media coverage to dead or wounded soldiers.

12. I Have Read Schlussel's Loathsome Little Hatchet Job

Debbie Schlussel's loathsome little hatchet job on Marla Ruzicka would appear to give the lie to any right-wing claims that they really gave much of a rat's arse one way or the other about the hapless Iraqis caught in the crossfire between insurgents on the one hand and Coalition troops on the other.

After the Rulin' Dubya Posse's ludicrous claims of massive stockpiles of WMDs posing an imminent threat were discredited, right-wing Gen merchants fell over themselves to claim that US troops were in Iraq to "promote democracy." Schlussel's callous treatment of Ruzicka's attempt to succor the victims would give enemies of the United States very good reason to believe that in fact the US isn't interested in democracy or even the well-being of the average Iraqi at all, but rather to control Iraq's oil supply.

Schlussel's little diatribe reminds me of the nasty little chant made by US troops in the Philippines over a century ago
