My wife and I used to have two individual cars and our high school age teenagers all had three individual cars between them. We have cut these down to just two cars, both hybrids. My wife and I are going to drive the RX 400h Hybrid, which after our trade ins cost us about $12000. The kids are sharing a Toyota Prius.
I now find after driving the RX 400 h for two eeks that we are averaging about 36 miles per gallon in the city which is where me and my wife do most of our driving. The kids get even more with their Prius.Because we have eliminated all the cars and reduced the cars to just two, we are ahead moneywise upfront and also in our gas costs. I also understand that these hybrids cut down pollution by 90% over the straight gasoline engines.
I am glad that these hybrids came along at the right time.Even my kids, after whining as usual about having to share the car with the siblings, have seen why we have to do it and have started bragging to their classmates about what they are doing. That is a good sign that this will catch on.
