NEW POPE TOUGH DISCIPLIARIAN - Says other Christian churches are deficient

Conservative German Cardinal Elected Pope

As John Paul's doctrinal watchdog, Ratzinger disciplined Latin American "liberation theology" theologians, denounced homosexuality and gay marriage and pressured Asian priests who saw non-Christian religions as part of God's plan for humanity.

In a document in 2000, he branded other Christian churches as deficient -- shocking Anglicans, Lutherans and other Protestants in ecumenical dialogue with Rome for years.

As dean of the College of Cardinals, he presided over John Paul's funeral Mass and the daily meetings of cardinals to discuss the next papacy.

Ratzinger was the oldest cardinal to be named pope since Clement XII, who was also 78 when he became pope in 1730. He is the first German pope since Victor II (1055-1057).

A man even more out of step with the modern times than John Paul II.

3. Oh, so as a Methodist I'm deficient, eh?
Edited on Tue Apr-19-05 01:15 PM by BullGooseLoony
Well, screw you too, buddy, AND your fucking indulgences.

Corrupt-ass motherfucker.

On edit: I'm not really a Methodist- not practicing, anyway. Both sets of grandparents are, though, and culturally I am, I guess.

4. Oh Well
I guess as an Epsicopalian I'm a member of a deficient church, unlike the Catholic church which now seems to protect child molesting priests.

So to the Catholic members of DU, if your Pope says that other Christian churches are deficient, do you still continue to associate
with we deficient Christians?

What if your Pope, because he is the head of the Catholic church, orders all Catholics not to associate with we deficient Christians, what will you do then?

I'm not trying to stir up anything, I'm just interested in hearing how Catholics would deal with such a requirement?

15. God's chosen people.
That's what I was always taught as a liberal protestant, that God loves all, but has a special place in His heart for the jewish people, because they listened to Him first.

7. Uh, they've already done that.
Catholics aren't allowed to share communion with non-Catholic Christians. Nor are non-Catholic Christians allowed to receive communion in a Catholic mass. Various other Christian churches, such as the Episcopal Church USA, do allow any baptized Christian to receive communion.

5. FYI, my Christian church is older than yours, Benedict. "Deficient"?
You can take that crucifix of yours and shove it where the sun don't shine.

10. Too bad. This was a chance for a progressive pope to make some
changes, but I guess it will have wait a few more years.

of a bust up of his church if he is what he seems to be. Head of the Inquisition sort of sums it up for me.

nicey nice with a man who occupies a post (the papacy) which according to our confessional statements has fulfilled adequete requirements to be considerd Antichrist, or quite possibly "the very Antichrist" if you are in one of the more hardline factions. But even the liberal ELCA holds to the Smalcald Articles and the Apology of the Augsburg Confession where these are spelled out http://www.elca.org/co/faith.html
