I never thought I'd see the day Canada and Americans fought on DU
Edited on Sat Apr-16-05 08:10 PM by HEyHEY
Over who's country is the biggest asshole.

I guess the GOP idea is starting to take hold. It'll be, "we need to invade Canada," from the Americans, and, "we need to arm ourselves in case of US aggresion," by the Canadians.

My my.

9. I Love Canada !
Every time I have been there, the people have been so cool.

I'm a proud American citizen but the USA is definitely the bigger asshole. It is the duty of all citizens here to work hard to make the US a better place.

Maybe then Canada will be the bigger asshole :) (but hopefully both nations can reduce the overall level of assholishness to de minimis).

Love ya' Canadians and I look forward to my next visit !

very fond memories of Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa. I think the complete lack of Imperial pretensions makes Canada very different from the US. I wish we were more like Canadians.

General Packingham arrived in England from New Orleans in a cask of rum. The Brits never invaded us again.

We really will greet you with chocolates and flowers. But, a word of caution, stick to the Left Coast at first. When you conquer us without much resitance you can move inland. Also, if you take over our military installations on the coast, it will really leave the Bushies without a major part of their defense. (I'm kidding.)

Something strange is happening at DU. First all the Hispanics are being dumped on and most of us are Americans, now Canadians?

32. I don't know if they should be fighting on two fronts,
but they would have to have troops on the border to keep out the Americans. Anyway the idea is to have Canada take over the USA one state at a time starting on the West Coast. The North East will eventually be taken over. I guess Canada could skip over those states who don't like anybody but themselves, mostly the Jesusland states.

16. Both suck, both have good
Analyze and critize both, praise where it is due. There are things wrong with all countries - pointing out the bad helps to change it, while celebrating the good helps us to keep working on those things and not let them slip.

I love the US, it's people, it's diversity and ingenuity. Some things I hate, some I don't hate but thing need worked on. But the people who make up both - are good people at heart, with a peppering of bad.

Borders will someday, perhaps, be erased as people come together to celebrate the common good they share and work to root out the common evil they both know.

21. I've always considered Canada to be a sibling to the U.S.,
and I would guess that many Canadians feel the same way considering the number of them that work and/or winter in this country (so many in our area, that our local paper has a regular daily column for Canadian news).

If there were a war between the two countries, it would be almost like a civil war and it would be tragic.

I can't believe the hostility in that thread. It saddens me.

22. I thought we were siblings too
But some Canucks seem to think that China will give us a rough time, while Canada remains unscathed. I was just trying to make the point that if China gets big enough to upset the US applecart then the whole North American applecart is going along with it

28. Is there a whiff of Anschluss in the air?
Canadians have nothing in common with the murderous Americans who think nothing of slaughtering civilians by the tens of thousands as payment for the crimes of a few dozen Al-Qaeda guys. This is the moral equivalent of liquidating the entire population of Florida as blood payment for the death of Sarah Lunde.

Hitler justified his take over of Austria by claiming that both countries shared a common language, culture, and race. Many of our friends on the extreme left already have expressed views about Canada that are similar to the ones Hitler expressed about Austria. The American Religious Right is making headway in infecting Canada with its theological filth. All Bush needs is a pretext to gobble up our neighbor to the North.

31. I didn't advocate the take over of Canada by the US. I didn't and don't
Edited on Sun Apr-17-05 06:44 PM by 1monster
support Bush in anything that he and his coterie of thugs have done since they stole power. I didn't support anything I can recall that his father or Reagan did either.

I stand by my feeling of siblingship with Canada. Siblings don't always agree, they don't always get along, and God knows, most siblings don't want their lives to be taken over by another of their siblings. There are literally hundreds of Canadians who winter here in my small part of the country every year, who seem to share that feeling of siblingship.

Your interpretation of my post is disingenuous at best (but in my view it is flamebait and contemptable). It is a far stretch to equate a feeling of brotherhood/sisterhood with our neighbors to the north with Hitler's takeover of Austria.

I take it from your user name that you are not Canadian. If those on this board who are Canadian share your view, then I'd rather hear it from them.

Anschluss: The annexation of Austria by Germany on March 12, 1938.
