1. Didn't you know the beef people paid off congress a long time ago
Good thing about mad cow is that it only takes about twenty years for it to show up, lucky us.

4. Do you ever shop at Safeway?
They have this new pricey shit called Ranchers something or other...supposed to be all local stuff, organically raised, but hell I don't trust them. How do we know it's organic... Where do you buy your organic beef if you don't mind sharing?

5. Let's hope that class-action lawsuit gets some attention and isn't

just dismissed by yet another bought Administration toady. This is one of the great ongoing scandals that has been hushed up for blatantly corrupt reasons. I buy all my meat from Whole Foods, what little I eat. I'm moving more toward vegetarianism - learning more of how to cook flavorful food with a variety of spices, Indian- and Asian-style has helped make this palatable - and most of the meat I eat is fish.

I don't eat beef and check labels of things like lipstick for potential beef byproducts. Beef rendering into omnipresent ingredients not easily recognized as beef-derived is a massive business that the US government is protecting against the interests of consumers. No one knows what the various rendering processes would do with prions from mad cow-infected animals. For example, nerve and brain tissue are very high in fat, and beef fat products turn up in a LOT of unexpected places.

The US government has suppressed everything that might alarm consumers about beef and beef products or trouble the big factory beef growers and processors with bothering with enforced safety precautions. Even the rules that were passed to prevent mad cow prions from getting into the food chain are routinely ignored and unenforced.

Horrible.
