Another reason programming jobs going overseas - we're getting dumb.
Looks like we really don't teach programming anymore. What is going on with our eduction system? This is nuts! But the good news is - Penn State is the top programming school in the US!!!! Go Penn State!

" In what could be an ominous sign for the U.S. tech industry, American universities slipped lower in an international programming contest.

The University of Illinois tied for 17th place in the world finals of the Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest, which concluded Thursday. That's the lowest ranking for the top-performing U.S. school in the 29-year history of the competition. "

1. No, we're getting "dumb" because the tech jobs aren't there
Why do you think they call it a "Brain Drain"?

We're not dumber. We've sent all our best computer work overseas. Of course we're going to slip in the ratings.

The man who sells all his clothes for top dollar has no cause to complain about being naked. Let him spend a buck or two and buy some new clothes.

10. The order of the deal
1. Jobs go overseas

2. Incentive, morale, and hope fall to zero.

3. American dominance in IT wilts like a dying lily.

And Free Enterprise supposedly makes America stronger.

4. Figures
We need to fund colleges more and better. Our future lies with those that hold a degree. Once we can get them straight, we can fund public schools better. I would like to see high school be so well organized and educational that basic studies in college would be a thing of the past.

But for now, we have to fight fundies from dumping some bullshit myth into biology classes since we might make kids godless and think for themselves.

5. This is so sad. But why would any student want to major in a
course that no longer offers any jobs in the United States. Who wants to go to India to get employment? The problem is only going to get worse.

8. There is no money in programming so who would be STUPID enough to pay for
ANY training in IT anymore? Not I, said the egg. Or was it the chicken?

The chicken or the egg?

Either way, the gigantic frying pan known as "corporate america" decided to make a chicken omlet, so it doesn't matter what started the trend. There is no future in America in IT.

Not unless the corporations decide to invest in their workers. Please pardon me, I need to

We both know they won't. They're too busy using the extra money they've made from offshoring as something disgusting and can be seen only on certain cable channels at 2AM pacific time...

12. Preach it, Brother
I busted my ass learning how to code -- largely on my own -- and clawed my way into IT.

I made excellent money for about two and one-half years.

Then, just as I was starting to break even, the bottom dropped out of the market. My COBRA insurance lated 18 months -- then I took ill with a very nasty form of bacteria and some weird kind of autoimmune disorder.

Work Ethic? It's become an oxymoron,

11. This is simply due to lower education standards
When you underfund the education system, allow corruption and rot to seep in, you cannot possibly expect better results.
