Any rumor as to the location of the 2008 Democratic National Convention
Myself I'd like to see city in the mountain west, like Denver, Las Vegas or Phoenix or Albequerque.

1. Wow.
People (like me, heh) get lambasted around here for even mentioning possible candidates for '08...I can't even imagine thinking about Convention cities yet. :D

2. No clue. But I'd say SF has earned the honor, after
10,000 took to the streets there and forced $chwarzenegger to back down on the worst of his ballot initiatives.

Of course, I was born and raised there so that makes me a bit biased. ;)

One can hope.

After getting defined as a "tax-raising, San Francisco liberal" at his convention (in San Fran, obviously).

My choice: Newark.

6. In a perfect world, SF would get it.
But with it's "ultra-liberal" stigma, especially in regards to gay marriage...err...unlikely. Sadly.

Then there's the Mondale history. :scared:

39. As much as I'd like to see it in SF, the Dems would just be asking for it
And I wouldn't be surprised if there were demonstrations from fringe groups on both sides because, well, it's San Francisco.

Denver might be good too- they have a Dem governor in a heavily red state and perhaps we can piece together the midwest, the east and some of the desert west+ California, Oregon, Washington, etc and win in 08 (with Feingold? I can dream, right?)

and always gets nailed for lack of hotel rooms. I still think the barge idea was good but that got scuttled too. Maybe Columbus would work.

Generally conventions are held in sports arenas, like the Fleet Center, Madison Square Garden, the United Center.

Holding the convention in Florida would be cool. :)

40. It is, but it may be just a little small for the 2008 Democratic....
...National Convention. I'd love to see the next DNC in Florida, especially Orlando, it would be a tonic after all of the seedy republican pollution that has invaded our state during the last twelve years.

Now, the convention center has over 2.1 million square feet of meeting space and assembly halls. Plus we have over 105,000 1st class hotel rooms within 15 minutes of the convention facility. It would make a great place for a political statement. We also have a number of major hotel projects on the drawing boards and in different stages of development totaling another 30,000 rooms. A commitment on a major political convention here in Orlando, would kick all of those projects off to a flying start. Our airport is a major piece of work also, rivaling the top airports in the country for incoming and outgoing traffic. Not to mention all of the theme parks and play activities. It's a great destination for business and fun.

Hold it right smackdab in enemy territory.

17. I have a feeling Dean will red state the convention
Wherever it goes. Dallas or Houston would be a very aggressive move, but there are a lot of Bushbots in those places who can make life very difficult if they want to.

21. Dallas elected a Lesbian Sheriff; Houston always has a DEM Mayor.
F'em! We'll go where ever it does us the most good, including Jackson, MS or, a provocative choice, Birmingham, AL (pick up 6% of the vote and we win that state). We should definitely stay away from one of my all time favorite cities, New Orleans...to much potential for trouble.

-- almost anything is possible. It will keep a lot of Rethugs on their toes, if nothing else, wherever city the convention winds up in.

Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Raleigh, Charleston, Atlanta, Denver, Tucson, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Kansas City, Cincinatti (or another large Ohio city), or another large city in a red state.

Or we could just have it at the Val Air in Des Moines.
