4. get "puke" bucket ready
a new pope still has to be (s)elected...

next week interspersed with Michal Jackson and "royal" wedding stories will be blather about speculation on who the new pope will be and what it would mean for the catholic church, the world and everything

this will be followed by videos and other photos of crowds standing around watching for smoke and "interviews" with people saying they came all the way from "x" for the funeral and decided to stay for the selection

don't be surprised if there will be a "pope-cam" focused on the chimney....

meanwhile -- don't know about you but I'm all "Poped" out

8. They need to distract everyone
from what is going on in Baghdad today. 1000's of protesters are celebrating the fall of Saddam's statue, by demanding that the US leave Iraq. We can't have the Bushbots see reality now, can we?

9. Contact Them
And tell them how disgusted you are at the state of the media today. At least it might let them now that about 48% of the American public is fed up about the "infotainment" that passes for news nowadays. Tell them to stop trying to be "Faux Lite" and start reporting the real news of the day.

(I don't consider Faux a news outlet, so we won't include them - they're beyond help)

I don't watch broadcast news anymore. I just get my news from wire services (and I read LBN and occasionally contribute information).

12. Are we still at war?
I mean, with all Schiavo all the time followed by all Pope all the time and now all Charles-illa all the time, I thought the war was over. I've been expecting joyous airport arrival celebrations any minute now. Declarations of victory.

Hold on a second. Are you suggesting that we are still at war? That Americans are dying in a fruitless exercise of American sole superpower?

But wait, there's almost no mention of this war thing in the MSM. They wouldn't keep us from that kind of news, would they?

15. Terri, Pope, Royals... no time for any Michael Jackson updates!
I'll be glad when Charles and Camilla's honeymoon is over, then we can get back to important things.

War? What war?

(sarcasm off)

21. How could I have forgotten Michael Jackson?
Okay, the Terry and the Pope are buried. Charles and Camilla are married. MIchael Jackson's going to jail, though not before lots more media coverage. What else will interfere with that pesky war reporting?

14. So don't watch it...
most people don't, and seem to live reasonably well.

There should be enough actual news for cable news to fill up 24 hours with quality information, but they tried that once and even fewer people watched.

16. I just don't watch it - it will have to reform if everyone stops watching.
That's my theory anyway. Either that or they'll go more and more "Faux" like to get the idiots to watch - in which case they will all simply lose all credibility. They've already lost all credibility with me so there is nothing left to lose in my estimation...

18. i had enough a while ago
jackson trial...schiavo...pope......

how about some news on the huge fucking water main break that knocked out my water for 8 hours yesterday. i spent an hour trying to get some news. "would i have water, can i drink it, is this going to be a few hours or a few days? should i kill my neighbors and steal their water or should i wait?"

finally, after an hour of flipping channels and radio stations i heard an item about it on a 6 oclock news from new york, i'm in nj and have no local tv stations. the asshole anchors read the item..."blah blah blah...water main break...2 counties without water....may see brown water from your tap if at all...." then they cut away from the overhead shot of water pouring out of the ground back to the two empty heads at the desk and one of them does a little schtick about "don't drink the brown water!" (making reference to the woodstock announcement not to take brown acid) then they go back to the pope.

My question: WHAT IS THE STATUS OF MY WATER???????

is his little joke an official announcement? is it a joke? do they have an official statement from the water company? what should i do?

eventually the water came back on but still very little news.

(on a side note: American Water (a huge company-global i beleive) has nothing about it on their website and no one answering their customer service numbers. no fucking info for millions of people without water. thank you giant corporations.)

20. You have missed a critical distinction here...
Cable "news" is not news at all. It is infotainment. Its sole purpose is to attract viewers and sell advertising. Any news it may report is incidental to that goal. The only reason that places like Fox and CNN retain a slim facade of "real" news is that it allows them access to places like the White House briefing room, where Extra and Celebrity Justice are not allowed.
