Poll question: Which death will impact us the most?
Whose current condition will affect us more as a nation?

I'm sure there are others out there equally as important, but the three high profile people right now who are close to death all have potential heavy impact on us. Some of the impact would be a worldwide impact, obviously, but here in the somewhat backward country we live in which one will result in the media circus we all know and love.

There are lots of possibilities to consider about what might happen when Fidel dies.

6. Does he have a successor? Jebbie might be looking for a job by then...
I just want to break the law, go there, and snorkel around the good beaches. Is that so wrong?

10. Raul
but the question is will the system hold without Fidel. Jeb is an idea though. He does well with the Cuban vote.

19. Not in the sense I added them
"Other" means another person--"None" means no one.

4. I believe Pope John Paul II because the Catholic Church in ....
...America will have to bring justice in the sexual abuse scandals and the new pope will be forced to deal with that.

5. I don't know whose...but certainly not the Pope's
Edited on Mon Mar-28-05 03:03 PM by mcscajun
His death will 'cause nary a ripple in the long term, for one simple reason: he's appointed the overwhelming majority of the Cardinals eligible to vote on the next Pope, and most observers expect the new Pope to pretty much be in his mold. Any new Pope will not be causing much of a change in how the Catholic Church responds to the world.

(no vote)

13. Though he may be bucking for the job
There are those who don't think he has much of a chance to get it. Can a Chief Justice be appointed from the outside as a brand newbie, or is that unorthodox?

15. yes, --there's no requirement
there is not requirement that the chief Justice be already a member of the court. You are directly appinted to chief justice, and this is often the case.

17. Or Kennedy
Or even O'Connor. The Chief will simply be replaced by another RW nut- no harm, no foul. But any of those other 3 certainly swings the Court even further right than it already is.

14. Us rich elitest demos with villas in Monaco
If I were a dirt poor Lock-step bomb throwin' member of the red state republican party I would say Shiavo since it was all the fault of lefty activist law creatin' judges.

But since I am an rich elitest ivory tower democrat with a villa in Monaco, I will have to go with Ranier
