11. It takes time to cross the water
Plus, these are areas where news is slow to get out. Remember how long it took us to find out about the scope of the last tsunami? 12 hours after it happened, the news stations were saying a tsunami had possibly killed as many as 1,000 people.

I hate to think what people will say if now there's a tsunami the day after Easter.

16. Might not be as bad as last time
Edited on Mon Mar-28-05 12:50 PM by Selatius
A 9.0 quake is 8 times stronger than this 8.2 one. If there is a tsunami, it shouldn't be as devastating because 1) most of the coastal communities are already wiped out, 2) the quake is much weaker, and 3) most people who survived now know the warning sign of an imminent tsunami.

If I'm wrong, and 100,000 people die, I'll eat my words.

17. Some guy on Art Bell predicted this...
A full moon with Jupiter and Saturn also in the sky spelled disaster. How anyone squares this with reality is a mystery to me-- the gravitational tug from the moon doesn't change with it's fullness and the gravitiational exertion of the distant planets must be exceedingly small.

Yes, I listen to Art Bell-- for ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES only.

But it does make you wonder...

21. The vast majority of Art Bell's guests are "a bit odd"
but plate tectonics is a complex system. Think Chaos Theory and butterflies kicking off hurricanes. I'm not saying I believe that this is what happened, just that lots of unlikely things are possible with complex systems.

23. Oh man, Nightline just did a piece on how the recovery was going,
they've been replanting the mangroves along the shore, jigsawing homes together from the scattered wreckage they've scavenged, & many are moving back to the coastline to resume their fishing...sure hope this doesn't bring another tsunami!

24. They're saying now that it was 8.7 & up to 290 are confirmed dead.
Everytime the news tries to do a comprehensive report on it, they are cut off with "Breaking News" from Florida. That just happened for the second time today, on CNN; had a guy on the phone, reporting from Jakarta & they broke away from his call to talk about the death of one, unconscious American!
