4. Terri has been dead along time
Edited on Sat Mar-26-05 03:11 AM by donheld
Her body has been forced to keep going, but there has been NO life there for a very long time. It's time to let her go.

I find it quite Ironic. So many of the people fighting to keep her "alive" are people who believe in Heaven, For some reason they don't want to let her go there.

6. Terri Schaivo is dead.
But, it's politically expedient to say she is "alive."

7. It's Schiavo and

The lady died a long time ago, so your poll question is ridiculous. It is crap worthy of Fox News.

To live she would require a brain transplant and one of those soul-restoring data dumps you see in cartoons and movies where all the memories and thoughts that a person has that make them who they are, are stored on magnetic tape and then transferred intact to a new host brain. But neither the record nor the method exist. Unless you know where Mrs. Schiavo's brain backup tape is being kept, all you're ever going to get from the body she left behind is that gawping corpse her parents insist on shoving under the nose of the world.

So there is no "allow" about it. It would take godlike advances in medical technology to force a semblance of human life back into her body. If we "allow" things to take their course, if we stop meddling in nature, her body will join her soul in the Great Beyond very shortly.

Maybe that was your point? Probably not.

Back in the reality based world, there are laws dealing with these dignity destroying, anguish inducing border states of Death. Whether you like it or not, the law's existence has to be at least acknowleged The law prescribes a process for decision in the absence of living wills or patient's expressed wishes not to be "resuscitated" in the event of a collapse of body functions that would leave them without awareness or hope of recovery. The law in Florida has been followed, (appellate and Federal courts have reviewed it procedurally again and again) and the judicial system's consistent finding is that, as best as anyone can know, the late Terri Schiavo would not want her mindless corpse treated beyond the point where hope has vanished and she would have ceased to be in conscious control of her bodily fate. Therefore if we are to "allow" Terri anything, it should be to allow her to have her stated preference while living for a death with dignity respected.

Sadly, her parents have already made a mockery--an absolutely obscene travesty--of that wish, with the help of all too eager assistants in the Republican Party, who by the way are looking forward to the "death" of Mrs. Schiavo the way children look forward to Christmas.
