"Pro-life"? Republicans are causing the unnecessary death of thousands
I see that the Right has once again been successful in FRAMING THE DEBATE. They've thrown another red meat WEDGE ISSUE into the fray and are now playing Democrats like a cheap fiddle.

The Schiavo case is NOT about 'pro-life' versus pro-death. Like the abortion issue...it should stay within the family, medical profession and courts. This is not...nor should it be...a political issue.

Republicans say they're taking the moral high road...but this is just one more example of them using a sensational story to illustrate their supposed 'pro-life' position.

The HYPOCRITICAL Bushie Republicans are RESPONSIBLE for the deaths of literally thousands of Americans and Iraqis that have died in an illegal, unprovoked and unnecessary war. Yet...they call themselves 'pro-life' because they're concerned about a comatose patient?

I'm shocked that Democrats have again fallen for these divide and conquer tactics.

1. What the hell is wrong with Tom Harkin?
This idiot is right up there with DeLay. Is this why Iowa went for the chimp?

2. Don't worry. Sooner or later, the Radical Right will fall,
one way or another.

3. This isn't about the Radical Right 'falling'...
...it's about the way they Play the Democrats on issues such as this.

Have you see either side march in front of the cameras to announce their concern for the thousands of innocent Iraqis or American Soldiers dying for a LIE?

If Democrats really want to appear as the PROLIFE party...they should pay as much attention to the THOUSANDS of unnecessary deaths in the middle east as they're doing with this ONE individual. What makes this one life more precious than the thousands being wasted for a lie?

Another example of the cynical politics of both sides as political opportunism rears it's ugly head.

5. They'd probably be relegated to a "free speech zone" far far away
so that nobody could hear them or see them and they could be conveniently ignored, just like the blivet** currently ignores any and all dissent (or has any who dare dissent taken away by police, either way...)
See, the reThugs DO hate us for our freedoms.

10. EVERYTHING is about making the Radical Right fall.
Everything they do is about control and power. They could give a RAT'S ASS about Terri Schiavo. This is all about appeasing the Christian Right, who they FOOLED into putting them into power.
They are the lowest form of vermin, and I will do anything short of commiting a felony to destroy their pathetic political careers.

4. Well let's make it sooner rather than later. This crap just can't go on.
The democrats have GOT to develop some fucking backbone! Damn, I miss Paul Wellstone!
As Julian Bond said in an excellent speech the other day in Minneapolis, "When one party is shameless, the other party can't afford to be spineless."

7. amen and..
if both parties are having too many members who 'work both sides of the street' my guess is that it's definately time for 'spine', to clean up the streets, and to begin restoration of some damned self-respect amongst us and those whom we would entrust in office and with our confidence!

6. The self-anointed "Pro Lifers" are killing me
The self anointed "Pro-Lifers" (I call them "Pro Birthers") are killing thousands of Americans with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, Parkinson's Disease, diabetes, etc.

How these "Holier Then Thou" "Pro Birthers" killing us? By erroneously conflating "stem cell research" with "abortion."

Factually incorrect.

Scientifically incorrect.

Theologically incorrect. Yes - THEOLOGICALLY INCORRECT - I am a "Person of Faith" - and my faith says that stem cell research is permissible.

    1. Stem Cell Research in Jewish Law By Rabbi Daniel Eisenberg, MD
    2. Community Letter by Rabbi Ken Chasen and Rabbi Yosef Kanefsky
    3. In a letter to President Bush, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America and the Rabbinical Council of America (not Reform but Orthodox) wrote
"Our Torah tradition places great value upon human life; we are taught in the opening chapters of Genesis that each human was created in G-d's very image. The potential to save and heal human lives is an integral part of valuing human life from the traditional Jewish perspective. Moreover, our rabbinic authorities inform us that an isolated fertilized egg does not enjoy the full status of person-hood and its attendant protections. Thus, if embryonic stem cell research can help us preserve and heal humans with greater success, and does not require or encourage the destruction of life in the process, it ought to be pursued."

I am a taxpaying, voting, property owning, non-druggie, person of faith, veteran DIABETIC -- a stem cell derived therapy could forestall a premature death ---why is my life less valuable then Terri Schiavo's.

I pray for Terri's family.

But I ask the Republicans to reconsider their "faith based" ban on stem cell research.

8. In Texas citizens can be taken off life support even without
family consent if they do not the abilty to pay:

Here is something from the Houston Chronicle:

. . . A patient's inability to pay for medical care combined with a prognosis that renders further care futile are two reasons a hospital might suggest cutting off life support, the chief medical officer at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital said Monday.

Dr. David Pate's comments came as the family of Spiro Nikolouzos fights to keep St. Luke's from turning off the ventilator and artificial feedings keeping the 68-year-old grandfather alive. . .

I think GW signed the bill that allows this to happen, but I can't find any links.

9. Oops. I guess that...
...Democrats can't say much about the hypocrisy of the pro-life Iraq 'war' since most of them also support it.

Is it any wonder why Democrats can't take a superior position on this and other issues?
