BUSH Returning to Washington Over SCHIAVO!!
CRAWFORD, Texas - President Bush is changing his schedule to return to the White House on Sunday to be in place to sign emergency legislation that would shift the case of a brain-damaged Florida woman to federal courts, the White House said Saturday.

"Everyone recognizes that time is important here," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said. "This is about defending life."

Yeah! You tell 'em, Scottie! Fuck the ranch! "This is about defending life."

...It was at this point, of course, that George W. Bush began the longest presidential vacation in thirty-two years. On the very first day of his visit to his Texas ranch, August 6, Bush received the now-infamous two-page intelligence alert titled, "Bin Laden Determined to Attack in the United States." Yet instead of returning to the capital to mobilize an energetic defensive posture, he spent an additional twenty-seven days away as the government languished in summer mode, in deep denial.

"In sum," said the 9/11 commission report, "the domestic agencies never mobilized in response to the threat. They did not have the direction, and did not have a plan to institute. The borders were not hardened. Transportation systems were not fortified. Electronic surveillance was not targeted against a domestic threat. State and local law enforcement were not marshaled to augment the FBI's efforts. The public was not warned.".

Yeah! You tell 'em, Bush! Fuck the terrorists! "This wasn't about defending life...it was...well...what exactly was this about, Bush?"

and why he feels it doesn't apply in terri's case.

Under chapter 166 of the Texas Health and Safety Code, if an attending physician disagrees with a surrogate over a life-and-death treatment decision, there must be an ethics committee consultation (with notice to the surrogate and an opportunity to participate).  In a futility case such as Sun Hudson's, in which the treatment team is seeking to stop treatment deemed to be nonbeneficial, if the ethics committee agrees with the team, the hospital will be authorized to discontinue the disputed treatment (after a 10-day delay, during which the hospital must help try to find a facility that will accept a transfer of the patient).  These provisions, which were added to Texas law in 1999, originally applied only to adult patients; in 2003; they were made applicable to disputes over treatment decisions for or on behalf of minors.  (I hasten to add that one of the co-drafters in both 1999 and 2003 was the National Right to Life Committee.  Witnesses who testified in support of the bill in 1999 included representatives of National Right to Life, Texas Right to Life, and the Hemlock Society.  Our bill passed both houses, unanimously, both years, and the 1999 law was signed by then Governor George W. Bush.)

12. Bingo!! There you go...you win!
His "defense" was that he has everything he needs to perform his duties as president there at the ranch with him when he's there, so there was no need to return to Washington over the August 6th PDB and a very real threat against the nation.

Yet a few years later he has to jump on Trigger and gallop to the rescue of one brain-dead woman!

If someone doesn't brace this administration on that point I'm going to friggin' scream.

"For Fuck's sake man. You couldn't return to Washington to reassure your 'fellow Americans' in times of crisis after 9/11, but you sure as hell can stick your immoral nose in where it doesn't belong."

Brain injury therapy being underfunded (bush slashed funding)

http://www.timesargus.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20 ...

March 18, 2005

According to doctors at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., 60 percent of the wounded soldiers coming back from Iraq have traumatic brain injuries.

Unfortunately, the Bush administration has recently completely zeroed out funding for the Federal TBI Act, which provides exactly this kind of help.

In Vermont, due to recent decisions concerning budgetary shortfalls, TBI survivors are now prevented from entering the Vermont TBI Medicaid Waiver Program, which delivers exactly this kind of help.

Please call the governor (802) 828-3345 and our congressional representatives and ask them to support the Vermont TBI Medicaid Waiver Program.

16. AP this AM -- Preznit *rushed* back to the WH for Schiavo!
He wouldn't rush back for al Qaeda, he wouldn't rush back for 9/11, but look at him scramble to energize the fundies!

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - The parents of Terri Schiavo asked a judge to reinsert the brain-damaged woman's feeding tube Monday, following an extraordinary, daylong political fight that consumed both chambers of Congress and prompted the president to rush back to the White House.

17. Our local radio personality pointed out
that the pretzeldent couldn't tear himself away from his vacation when 14 american soldiers died or when thousands were killed during the tsunami, but found this important enough to go back to Washington for.

People do see their hypocracy.
