Another piece of evidence we're in 1936 Germany
The Tribune, CHicago's Rw daily, has on the front page of the opinion sectin today the results of a 1st amendment poll. 1000 yound people were questioned. One of the sub-headlines says that the question was asked "Should newspapers be allowed to print what they want without the govenment interfering"? Only 51% said yes. So ~49% think we should get our news from the government.

We are, truly, doomed. The nation of Jefferson & Franklin is dead and gone. If you want a preview of the next 30 years here, read "The Rise & Fall Of The 3rd Reich"

26. I wonder if the Soviet populace enjoyed reading Pravda
That is the crux for me. Reading "They Thought They Were Free" is enlightening to the extent that the German citizenry was quite content being under the thumb of Hitler, up until the bombs started dropping on Berlin. I wonder of the people in the USSR who got all of their "news" through the Kremlin's filter were happy that way.

3. Absolutely shockimg
that's the kind of freedom we have fought for and should continue to fight for - not George Bush's freedom. I have never quite figured out what freedom he is talking about when he is saying the soldiers are fighting for our freedom. Freedom from fear of terrorism?? Conservative people want the government to stay out of their lives, but they want the government to determine what news they see, what's on TV and radio and movies, and where you can protest, who can get married, what a woman can do with her body. The contradiction is amazing.

is an invention of U.S. intelligence agencies. Its mouthpieces such as bin Laden are brought out periodically to make propaganda videos to give the warmongers a pretext for the next natural resources war.

Americans are lazy, easily manipulated, intellecutally incurious and easily controlled. We've been primed for decades by the American (mis)educational system for just this purpose: the implementation of Fascism.

To any Conswervative thinking the government should approve news stories: how do you think they would have felt if the Clinton administration had supressed any mention of the Monica Lewinsky affair?

Oh, but that's different.

9. I'd say 1940.
After the flush of "victory" has worn off, but before
the great powers (i.e., the US) entered the fray.

This time the weapon against us will be economic.
When the Asian banks start flooding the currency exchanges
with dollars, our money will be worth about as much
as the mark was right after WW-I.

Then you get a whole bunch of countries going to the
euro instead of the petrodollar and watch out. The house
of cards will all come crashing down.

24. And we haven't even had a victory
Schicklegruber annexed Poland, Austria, and CZ successfully. Our attempted colonization of Iraq (or whatever it is - warning shot to the rest of the ME, whatever) has been a disaster. It's broken the bank, strengthened the opposition, and united the people of the world against the US.

Austria and CZ were done politically I'll grant
you, but Poland was aggression, and done successfully
in 1939/1940, along with France.

I was putting us in that window of time of between
when the aggression began and the world finally
stepped up said "no, this will not stand."

34. I'm wondering if the world will just
let us collapse from the expense of and internal strife caused by George's folly. Rather than bomb us, they may be shrewd enough to just let this go on for another couple years, and then just buy us.

35. They can't let it collapse completely.

You know how many bugs and weapons and shit we've
got? Put ebola and those mfers out there for sale
to the highest bidder? I don't think so.

That's why I said the takedown is going to be economic.
Once the dollar collapses from the glut on the market
from the Asian banks, and then nobody wanting dollars
them b/c they don't need 'em to buy oil anymore, then
George's goose is gonna be right cooked.

/sarcasm on.
Hey, how about some debt forgiveness and a Marshall
plan for us? Lol.

15. They are going to have to get hungry first.
Empty gas pumps, little food on the shelves, a relative who is outspoken thrown in the slammer, rolling blackouts, Grandma loses her Social Security and Medicare, and the ultimate lost jobs, before even the 51% who are told how to think get pissed off.

I am not so sure that 49% really supported or voted for Bush so we may represent higher numbers. Of the relatives who voted for ** I have made it very clear what their status with me is and what it will be in the coming dollar meltdown and shit storm.

Sadly, there are a whole lot of kids out there whose parents haven't even bothered to talk to them about how easily a government can create an "alternate reality" by what they allow to be read, seen, and heard.

Any parent that wants to see a good movie with their kids AND have the opportunity to talk to them about OUR current alternate reality ought to take them to see "Robots." The message is all there, in innuendo, but my entire family was up till midnight last night talking about it.

My kids aren't "little" anymore but they still like kids movies. I have a preteen and a teenager. They loved the movie!

I've noticed a big shift in the past 4 years and I have 3 in school. Much more of a push away from critical thinking and being allowed to question or to present a different perspective. If it's not on the mandated tests, then sit down, don't ask questions, etc.

Should the government require that they tell the truth? Should the government tell them what to print? Both of course would be government interferring.

22. Actually, the phrasing of this was pretty unambiguous
the question was,

"Should newpapers be allowed to print stories without the government's approval"? Only 51% said yes. That tells me that almost half of the students polled want the government to approve of every story that runs in every newspaper. Sorry, but this is frightening to me.

31. What is new in Illinois?
http://www.state.il.us/hpa/lovejoy/bio.htm

"November 7, 1837. It finally seemed to be over. The last of the group who guarded the warehouse ran from a final volley of buckshot to the safety of the river. The victorious mob from Alton calmly entered the building, walked past the slain body of Elijah Lovejoy, and began the dismantling of his last printing press. Wordlessly and without celebration, they went about the duty of destroying the last of the abolitionist voice in Alton. Several men hoisted the press up to a third floor window and dropped it to the street below. The party on the street gathered up the fallen pieces of the press and dragged them to the steamboat landing along the Mississippi River where hammers were employed in smashing the press beyond recognition."

Did you say 1836 America?
