My gut feeling is to believe Scott Ritter. We will strike Iran soon.
Today on Meet the Press Condom Rice said that they felt VERY strongly that Iran should not get Nuclear Weapons and they would take the necessary steps to prevent them from getting them.

A major Air Strike will possibly hit Iran very soon! They are not going to give them time to figure out what is going on and move anything to a safe place. Those Aircraft Carriers moving into the Mediterranean right now very well could strike in the next few days.

Then again I could be completely wrong but that is my gut feeling. Bush is crazy enough to do it.

What do you think?

5. Yeah, but there'll be a great deal of sabre-rattling beforehand.
Warship-rattling, whatever.

4. wonder how our oil&gas competitors would feel about this?
Iran plays nuclear hardball as Bush tries to open European front

Tehran has found in the past that it has been able to maintain good trading relations with European nations, despite US displeasure. It has just completed a crucial nuclear supply agreement with Russia, and signed a large oil and gas deal with China last year.

6. The are trying to sucker Iran into attacking us.
Iran is heavily armed with cruise missiles. Exocet and Sunburn cruise missiles, not Scuds. They can EASILY destroy everything in the gulf in a matter of hours. They could inflict 20,000 US casualties quickly. The fear is, that the goal is to have them do just that. The popular support Bush would receive after such an attack would allow him to get away with anything he wants for as long as he wants.

8. Think of Pearl Harbor
If America sustains 20,000 casualties in a day, it won't matter who is really at fault. Americans will rally around the president like sheep. He will be able to suspend the constitution, implement a draft, jail political enemies... the works. And all it costs is a few aircraft carriers and 20k of america's finest young men and women.

21. Iran doesn't need to attack us
All the have to do is close the Straits of Hormuz:

http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/choke.html

25% of world oil passes through there on tankers. Closing the straits would push the price of oil up and exacerbate an already unstable situation vis-à-vis the dollar. Besides, that would cut off ship contact with our boys and girls in Iraq. Oops! Trapped! Or at least, hard as hell to supply.

14. Saddam did everything he was asked, except stepping down
and leaving the country -- and even that he might have done if we hadn't jumped the deadline by 12 hours.

There is no concession Iran can make that will satisfy the little emperor.

15. honestly...
with the possibility of N. Korea attacking over our annual US/S. Korea military drills, and the possibility of problems with China over Taiwan, I don't think we'll be sending troops anywhere else in the Middle East other than places we already send troops. HOWEVER, I'm sure we'll try many, many shady Nicaragua/Noriega/other military coup-esque tactics of controlling the Middle East...

It's in the cards. Iran is part of the "greater middle east". We've been dumping radical islamic literature on them for years now. The efforts are about to pay off.

20. I think that the point was that the US and Israel have a long
history of promoting and arming fundie extremists as a counter to secular anti-imperialist movements. You reap what you sow, blowback, and such.

tables of 10 when he came and spoke in Dallas.

He hasn't missed yet. Too bad our MSM won't give him the time of day.

on edit: one table was just for DU'ers, hope those that were there remember. The other table was for a candidate running for Congress.

22. It's going to be a two-fer
booga-booga about nukes and WMDs is not going to fly as well as it did regarding Iraq

the bushies need a "NEW IMPROVED" excuse

once again -- my scenario:

Israel bombs a nuke facility in Iran.

Iran and/or Syria responds by attacking Israel.

General Yee-Haawww declares that we have to defend Israel against the "bad guys" -- and then we invade Iran and Syria -- thus clearing the way for a pipeline to Israeli ports on the Mediterranean Sea

23. The Kirkuk-Haifa pipeline already exists.
"thus clearing the way for a pipeline to Israeli ports on the Mediterranean Sea"

It was closed down in 1948 and goes through Jordan, not Syria, so what would be the point. There is another pipeline from Kirkuk to Tripoli, Lebanon.

24. REALITY: SCANDALS ON THE WAY
Everyone who keeps talking about this makes me wonder about their connection to reality.

You can't hold all these wars because we have no money or people to send IN ADDITION:

THERE ARE THE FOLLOWING SCANDALS ON THE WAY

1. Valerie Plame
2. Gannongate/Gay Hooker in the White House-----> Major problem because it's a breach of security.
3. VOTERGATE: VOTING MACHINES/STICKERS ON BALLOTS.

You have to think about all these problems that are coming AND THE WHITEHOUSE KNOWS IT. They're blowing smoke like the jerks that they are.

We're not attacking anyone and don't have the capability to do so.
