Did you jist hear what the MSNBC Anchor said about Nicols?
Alex Witt (think thats her name): "Why did they have a female sheriff deputy escorting him in the first place ? Way back when, on Friday morning from the detention center to the courthouse?"

15. Because ...
they are easier on the eyes and MSM has nothing credible to say now-a-days anyway. I just turn down the sound and rate the barbie doll news casters while flipping the chanels back and forth ... all in fun. :)

5. She is not the only one to ask that question.
There is no way they should have send a single female deputy to escort Nicols, especially considering the shanks were found in his shoes just the day before this.

6. they shouldn't have had a single anybody escorting him, there should have
been at least 2 or more escorting him.

9. Have you seen a pic of that female deputy?
No piece of fluff there, folks!

Besides, to even get through the application process and training in Alabama, women have to be just as bad-assed as (or more bad-assed than) men!

12. Exactly..the physical capacities test for female officers is the same
as the PCT for men..in most states there are at least 50 physical activities they must prove they can perform including take downs and draggin a 200 lb body 50 feet without assistance

7. Pffft....
It would've been better to ask why he wasn't leg-shackled, was he handcuffed in the front instead of the back, and why aren't prisoners transported by cops in twos? The gender question is stupid. I know female CO's that are tougher than men, and the departments can't discriminate based on gender.

11. If he was taken to the courtroom in handcuffs or shackles
Where the jury could see it would prejudice the jury into a presumption of guilt.

13. Because apparently it's unconstitutional to have
a defendant shackled and handcuffed in front of the jury. One wonders why such a thing doesn't happen more often, if that is the case?

21. He wasn't shackled because he wasn't Susan McDougal
and his case didn't involve Clinton's penis.

14. She was weaker, he was stronger
And because of this he was able to take away her weapon by force and start killing.
This needs to be taken into account for corrective action to be taken. I'm not saying females can't be deputies, or some women can't be stronger than some men. I'm saying use your common sense, this is not tough to figure out.

I think I heard that the deputy was just a little over five feet tall and a fifty something grandmother. I don't see how she could be a match for someone the size of Nichols.

22. You heard wrong. She was a pretty buff & tough looking woman. This ...
was more of a case of bad procedure, one person of ANY gender should not have been alone w/him while removing his shackles & cuffs for his court appearance. He could have just as easily taken out a male deputy in the same circumstances. Someone as nuts & determined to escape & kill as this guy wouldn't have deterred by a man alone w/him. These reporters should be asking why a prisoner w/a proven propensity for violence was not handled by a TEAM of sheriffs.

16. I have no problem with the deputy being female
But in this case there was a real height/weight difference and the judge and others asked for more security after the shanks were found.
There should have been more than one officer. It would take 2 or more 200 lb officers to subdue this guy.
One silly thought I had yesterday. = What if NO guns were allowed in a courthouse? May have been some bruising/broken bones, but not 4 deaths. What a novel approach. I'm sure in the future we will go the other way, with snipers and missile launchers grenades and tanks on the outside. Keep some serious biologicals close by and a baby nuke.

18. holy crap!!!
I was just down in Chattanooga visiting some friends coming through the state, and one of the gals working in the hotel near the breakfast area said to us (when we were talking about something totally different) "that's what I'M wondering.... why did they have a WOMAN escorting him in the first place?" and we all rolled our eyes away and tried to avoid laughing (she was old and interrupted us with something we were talking about 15 minutes prior). And once we got out of there, I couldn't help but laugh at this...
I wanted to tell the woman that if she's that sexist, then why wasn't she at HOME cleaning... but alas, I have a little more respect than that.
