Anyone else think that Rather has something up his sleeve?
He may be leaving the anchor desk of the CBS Evening News but he will still be doing investigative reporting for 60 Minutes. Dan is a rock solid tough as nails journalist. I don't think for one minute he is going to take the Bush/Air National Guard debacle lying down. Getting Dan off the anchor desk might just be Karl Rove's worst nightmare.

3. I hadn't thought about it before but hopefully you are right on with that
idea. Didn't Moyer quit so he could do real news too?

5. That was a pretty serious look into the camera as the broadcast closed
I hope so. But we do live in a time of smoke and mirrors.

6. I'd just rather they didn't have sleeves.
I'm still waiting for what Kerry/Edwards had up their sleeve. I wish they'd just wear tank tops and stop teasing the wishful thinkers.

7. Rather is not the type of guy that will go quietly...
I expect him to be around 10+ more years as a reporter (which is what hes really good at). And since hes no longer anchor for the evening news, he will probably be able to do and say alot more :)

After reading what is on http://www.fair.org about this GOP shill, I lost all respect for Dan Blather.

Also Greg Palast's latest at http://www.gregpalast.com shows what a GOP toady Dull Danny was and still is

9. That's what I'm hoping
and that's what I have secretly suspected. I also hope it's not wishful thinking. But for D.R. to go quietly or knuckle under has never been his style.

10. Actually I think too many reporters have recently taken up retirement
for me to believe they don't ALL have something up their sleeve. They need out of the spotlight. This seems like "Deep Throat" times two, the sequel to me!

11. They need out of corporate control.
Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather, Bill Moyers, and several others. I think they will do anything they can to help defeat this bushie movement. Books, documents, speeches. At least I hope so.

17. I'm hoping their pooling their resources and knowledge to
investigate the hell out of all these scandals! what ever happened to all those freelance journalists out there that used to break the REAL stories?

I am seeing a little less towing the line on behalf of some of the major networks lately. Maybe they are getting close enough to the truth to realize they need to start at least acting like they haven't been playing the bush regime game for 4 years!

12. He sure better!
why should he sacrifice his career to these jerks?
They had someone picketin CBS studios with a sign that said "Goodbye Rather and good riddance."

It will be a gloomy retirement for him if he doesn't.

16. I support Rather, but
I don't seem him as a journalist or a liberal of any kind.

As for having something up his sleeve, I'm sure he has LOTS up his sleeve, but it's his job not to use it. I'm not sure, but I think Rumsfeld might own Rather's soul.

19. All he has up his sleeve is his arm..

CBS allowed themselves to be neutered, and there are rumors of canceling 60Minutes-Wed. Rather's transfer there could be their way of getting rid of him permanently. He will write books and go on the lecture circuit now, but that's it for him. He pissed off the wrong people, and gave his enemies too much ammunition.

The "regular" networks have no clout anymore when it comes to news. they cannot do battle with 24/7 spin factories, and they know it.. the "Nightly News" programs are vestigial and are only being done because "some" people still want them. There is a whole generation coming up who have never watched the Nightly News. When the oldsters among us are "gone", so will the need for the nightly news be:(

They will happily replace it with another game show or an expanded celebrity-fest program..
